Verses 8–26

وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ نَّاعِمَةٌۭ﴿٨﴾

88:8Some faces on that day will be joyous,

لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌۭ﴿٩﴾

88:9pleased with their endeavour,

فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍۢ﴿١٠﴾

88:10in a lofty garden,

لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَٰغِيَةًۭ﴿١١﴾

88:11where they will not hear any vain talk.

فِيهَا عَيْنٌۭ جَارِيَةٌۭ﴿١٢﴾

88:12In it is a flowing spring

فِيهَا سُرُرٌۭ مَّرْفُوعَةٌۭ﴿١٣﴾

88:13and raised couches,

وَأَكْوَابٌۭ مَّوْضُوعَةٌۭ﴿١٤﴾

88:14with goblets set,¹

وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌۭ﴿١٥﴾

88:15and cushions laid out in an array,²

وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ﴿١٦﴾

88:16and carpets spread out.³

أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ﴿١٧﴾

88:17Do they not observe the camel, [to see] how it has been created?

وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ﴿١٨﴾

88:18and the sky, how it has been raised?

وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ﴿١٩﴾

88:19and the mountains, how they have been set?

وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ﴿٢٠﴾

88:20and the earth, how it has been surfaced?⁴

فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌۭ﴿٢١﴾

88:21So admonish—for you are only an admonisher,

لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ﴿٢٢﴾

88:22and not a taskmaster over them—⁵

إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ﴿٢٣﴾

88:23except him who turns back and disbelieves.

فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ﴿٢٤﴾

88:24Him Allah will punish with the greatest punishment.

إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ﴿٢٥﴾

88:25Indeed to Us will be their return.⁶

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم﴿٢٦﴾

88:26Then, indeed, their reckoning will lie with Us.
