At-Taariq

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ﴿١﴾

86:1By the heaven, and by the nightly visitor³

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ﴿٢﴾

86:2(and what will show you what is the nightly visitor?

ٱلنَّجْمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ﴿٣﴾

86:3It is the brilliant star):⁴

إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌۭ﴿٤﴾

86:4there is a guard over every soul.

فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ﴿٥﴾

86:5So let man consider from what he was created.

خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍۢ دَافِقٍۢ﴿٦﴾

86:6He was created from an effusing fluid⁵

يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ﴿٧﴾

86:7which issues from between the loins and the breast-bones.⁶⁷

إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌۭ﴿٨﴾

86:8Indeed He is able to bring him back [after death],

يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ﴿٩﴾

86:9on the day when the secrets are examined⁸

فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٍۢ وَلَا نَاصِرٍۢ﴿١٠﴾

86:10and he shall have neither power nor helper.

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجْعِ﴿١١﴾

86:11By the resurgent heaven,⁹

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدْعِ﴿١٢﴾

86:12and by the furrowed earth:¹⁰

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلٌۭ فَصْلٌۭ﴿١٣﴾

86:13it is indeed a conclusive discourse,

وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلْهَزْلِ﴿١٤﴾

86:14and not a jest.¹¹

إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًۭا﴿١٥﴾

86:15Indeed they are devising a stratagem,

وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًۭا﴿١٦﴾

86:16and I [too] am devising a plan.¹²

فَمَهِّلِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًۢا﴿١٧﴾

86:17So respite the faithless; give them a gentle respite.¹³¹⁴
