Verses 1–27

عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ﴿١﴾

78:1What is it that they are questioning each other about?!¹

عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ﴿٢﴾

78:2[Is it] about the Great Tiding,

ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ﴿٣﴾

78:3the one about which they differ?

كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ﴿٤﴾

78:4No indeed! Soon they will know!

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ﴿٥﴾

78:5No indeed! Soon they will know for once again!

أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَٰدًۭا﴿٦﴾

78:6Did We not make the earth a resting place?²

وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًۭا﴿٧﴾

78:7and the mountains stakes?³

وَخَلَقْنَٰكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًۭا﴿٨﴾

78:8and create you in pairs?

وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًۭا﴿٩﴾

78:9and make your sleep for rest?⁴

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًۭا﴿١٠﴾

78:10and make the night a covering?

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًۭا﴿١١﴾

78:11and make the day for livelihood?

وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًۭا شِدَادًۭا﴿١٢﴾

78:12and build above you the seven mighty heavens?⁵

وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًۭا وَهَّاجًۭا﴿١٣﴾

78:13and make [the sun for] a radiant lamp?⁶

وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءًۭ ثَجَّاجًۭا﴿١٤﴾

78:14and send down water pouring from the rain-clouds,⁷⁸

لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّۭا وَنَبَاتًۭا﴿١٥﴾

78:15that We may bring forth with it grains and plants,

وَجَنَّٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا﴿١٦﴾

78:16and luxuriant gardens?⁹

إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَٰتًۭا﴿١٧﴾

78:17Indeed the Day of Judgement is the tryst,

يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًۭا﴿١٨﴾

78:18the day the Trumpet will be blown, and you will come in groups,

وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًۭا﴿١٩﴾

78:19and the sky will be opened and become gates,

وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا﴿٢٠﴾

78:20and the mountains will be set moving and become a mirage.

إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًۭا﴿٢١﴾

78:21Indeed hell is in ambush,¹⁰

لِّلطَّٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًۭا﴿٢٢﴾

78:22a resort for the rebels,

لَّٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًۭا﴿٢٣﴾

78:23to reside therein for ages,¹¹

لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًۭا وَلَا شَرَابًا﴿٢٤﴾

78:24tasting in it neither any coolness nor drink,

إِلَّا حَمِيمًۭا وَغَسَّاقًۭا﴿٢٥﴾

78:25except boiling water and pus,¹²¹³

جَزَآءًۭ وِفَاقًا﴿٢٦﴾

78:26a fitting requital.¹⁴

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًۭا﴿٢٧﴾

78:27Indeed they did not expect any reckoning,
