Verses 26–50

أَحْيَآءًۭ وَأَمْوَٰتًۭا﴿٢٦﴾

77:26for the living and the dead,

وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ شَٰمِخَٰتٍۢ وَأَسْقَيْنَٰكُم مَّآءًۭ فُرَاتًۭا﴿٢٧﴾

77:27and set in it lofty [and] firm mountains, and given you agreeable water to drink?¹²

وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ﴿٢٨﴾

77:28Woe to the deniers on that day!

ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ﴿٢٩﴾

77:29[The faithless will be told:] ‘Proceed toward what you used to deny!

ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ ظِلٍّۢ ذِى ثَلَٰثِ شُعَبٍۢ﴿٣٠﴾

77:30Proceed toward the triple-forked shadow,³

لَّا ظَلِيلٍۢ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهَبِ﴿٣١﴾

77:31neither shady nor of any avail against the flames.⁴

إِنَّهَا تَرْمِى بِشَرَرٍۢ كَٱلْقَصْرِ﴿٣٢﴾

77:32Indeed it throws up [giant] sparks like castles,⁵⁶

كَأَنَّهُۥ جِمَٰلَتٌۭ صُفْرٌۭ﴿٣٣﴾

77:33[bright] like yellow camels.⁷

وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ﴿٣٤﴾

77:34Woe to the deniers on that day!

هَٰذَا يَوْمُ لَا يَنطِقُونَ﴿٣٥﴾

77:35This is a day wherein they will not speak,

وَلَا يُؤْذَنُ لَهُمْ فَيَعْتَذِرُونَ﴿٣٦﴾

77:36nor will they be permitted to offer excuses.⁸

وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ﴿٣٧﴾

77:37Woe to the deniers on that day!

هَٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ ۖ جَمَعْنَٰكُمْ وَٱلْأَوَّلِينَ﴿٣٨﴾

77:38‘This is the Day of Judgement. We have brought you together with the former generations.

فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمْ كَيْدٌۭ فَكِيدُونِ﴿٣٩﴾

77:39If you have any stratagems [left], try them out against Me!’⁹

وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ﴿٤٠﴾

77:40Woe to the deniers on that day!

إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى ظِلَٰلٍۢ وَعُيُونٍۢ﴿٤١﴾

77:41Indeed the Godwary will be amid shades and springs¹⁰

وَفَوَٰكِهَ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ﴿٤٢﴾

77:42and [enjoying] such fruits as they desire.¹¹

كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ﴿٤٣﴾

77:43[They will be told:] ‘Enjoy your food and drink, [a reward] for what you used to do.

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ﴿٤٤﴾

77:44Thus do We reward the virtuous.’

وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ﴿٤٥﴾

77:45Woe to the deniers on that day!

كُلُوا۟ وَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ قَلِيلًا إِنَّكُم مُّجْرِمُونَ﴿٤٦﴾

77:46‘Eat and enjoy a little! You are indeed guilty.’

وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ﴿٤٧﴾

77:47Woe to the deniers on that day!

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱرْكَعُوا۟ لَا يَرْكَعُونَ﴿٤٨﴾

77:48When they are told, ‘Bow down [in prayer],’ they do not bow down!¹²

وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ﴿٤٩﴾

77:49Woe to the deniers on that day!

فَبِأَىِّ حَدِيثٍۭ بَعْدَهُۥ يُؤْمِنُونَ﴿٥٠﴾

77:50So what discourse will they believe after this?
