Verses 50–56

كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌۭ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌۭ﴿٥٠﴾

74:50as if they were terrified asses¹

فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍۭ﴿٥١﴾

74:51fleeing from a lion?²

بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍۢ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًۭا مُّنَشَّرَةًۭ﴿٥٢﴾

74:52But everyone of them desires to be given unrolled scriptures [from Allah]!³

كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةَ﴿٥٣﴾

74:53No! Indeed, they do not fear the Hereafter.

كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌۭ﴿٥٤﴾

74:54No! It is indeed a reminder.

فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ﴿٥٥﴾

74:55So let anyone who wishes be mindful of it.

وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ﴿٥٦﴾

74:56And they will not be mindful unless Allah wishes. He is worthy of [your] being wary [of Him] and He is worthy to forgive.
