Commentary on this passage
Verse 1
1.The name of Nuh (a.s.) was Abdul Ghaffar or Abdul Malik or Abdul Aala. On the basis of excessive weeping he got the title of Nuh. He had the life span of approximately 2500 years. He preached for 950 years and after the deluge he lived for 50 or 60 years. His generation advanced with his sons, Haam, Saam and Yafith. Idol worshipping started during the time of Anush bin Shees, the grandson of Adam (a.s.) and by the time of Nuh (a.s.) it had reached to its zenith. He called his people to the right path in different ways, but people used to run away continuously and used to put their fingers into their ears. He even promised forgiveness of some sins, which they committed before accepting Islam. So that there is no hitch in accepting Islam and invited the community in all manner day and night, secretly and openly. But those who were not going to come on the right path, did not come and with that two things come to fore: (i) Man should not get frustrated and lose hope because of waywardness of the people. (ii) The preacher should not, in the course of preaching neglect any manner and method. He should never become the victim of low spirit. The minimum effect of the preaching will be that when the storm of punishment will come on the head, the Lord will in any way save the preacher and those who follow him. Even if the rest of the community or the whole world be drowned and in such an atmosphere it will be a great blessing of Allah if any person or the group is saved, the attainment of which is not possible without preaching or obedience.
