Verses 35–52

فَلَيْسَ لَهُ ٱلْيَوْمَ هَٰهُنَا حَمِيمٌۭ﴿٣٥﴾

69:35so he has no friend here today,¹

وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ غِسْلِينٍۢ﴿٣٦﴾

69:36nor any food except pus,²

لَّا يَأْكُلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْخَٰطِـُٔونَ﴿٣٧﴾

69:37which no one shall eat except the iniquitous.’³

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ﴿٣٨﴾

69:38I swear by what you see

وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ﴿٣٩﴾

69:39and what you do not see:

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍۢ كَرِيمٍۢ﴿٤٠﴾

69:40it is indeed the speech of a noble apostle

وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَاعِرٍۢ ۚ قَلِيلًۭا مَّا تُؤْمِنُونَ﴿٤١﴾

69:41and it is not the speech of a poet. Little is the faith that you have!

وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٍۢ ۚ قَلِيلًۭا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ﴿٤٢﴾

69:42Nor is it the speech of a soothsayer. Little is the admonition that you take!

تَنزِيلٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿٤٣﴾

69:43Gradually sent down from the Lord of all the worlds.

وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ ٱلْأَقَاوِيلِ﴿٤٤﴾

69:44Had he faked any sayings in Our name,⁴

لَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِٱلْيَمِينِ﴿٤٥﴾

69:45We would have surely seized him by the right hand

ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ ٱلْوَتِينَ﴿٤٦﴾

69:46and then cut off his aorta,⁵

فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَٰجِزِينَ﴿٤٧﴾

69:47and none of you could have held Us off from him.⁶

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَذْكِرَةٌۭ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ﴿٤٨﴾

69:48Indeed it is a reminder for the Godwary.⁷

وَإِنَّا لَنَعْلَمُ أَنَّ مِنكُم مُّكَذِّبِينَ﴿٤٩﴾

69:49Indeed We know that there are some among you who deny [it].

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَسْرَةٌ عَلَى ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ﴿٥٠﴾

69:50And indeed it will be a [matter of] regret for the faithless.

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ﴿٥١﴾

69:51It is indeed certain truth.

فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ﴿٥٢﴾

69:52So celebrate the Name of your Lord, the All-supreme.
