61. As-Saff · The Ranks
Madinan14 verses
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
سَبَّحَ لِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
61:1Whatever there is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Allah, and He is the All-mighty, the All-wise.
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لِمَ تَقُولُونَ مَا لَا تَفْعَلُونَ
61:2O you who have faith! Why do you say what you do not do?
كَبُرَ مَقْتًا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ أَن تَقُولُوا۟ مَا لَا تَفْعَلُونَ
61:3It is greatly outrageous to Allah that you should say what you do not do.5
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُقَٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِهِۦ صَفًّۭا كَأَنَّهُم بُنْيَٰنٌۭ مَّرْصُوصٌۭ
61:4Indeed Allah loves those who fight in His way in ranks, as if they were a compact structure.6
Tafsir
Commentary on this passage
2.Some people used to boast before the command of Jihad (holy war) came, but when the order of Jihad came they retreated. This Ayat has reprimanded these very people and reference of Prophet Moosa’s people is given. So that you don’t become incompetent and go astray like them and defend Islam by becoming united and ready to fight, because this is a very important and sacred duty of religion and humanism. If you are lacking in the holy war after it starts, it will be difficult to maintain the order. And if the system of life is endangered, what is the use of man remaining alive, how can it be called the life of humans.
