57:20Know that the life of this world is mere diversion and play, glamour and mutual vainglory among you and rivalry for wealth and children—like rain, whose growth impresses the farmer. The life of this world is nothing but the wares of delusion.567

Commentary on this passage
Verse 19
1.From here it can be evaluated that generally Siddiq is not a very big status which can be taken as an extraordinary thing and considered the result of a special grace of the Lord. This is the status which a believers can gain on the base of the sincerity of their belief. It cannot he attained by being away from belief and just being in the company of the believers.
Verse 20
2.Some scholars say that it is the nature of human, that when he is young he loves playing. When he grows a little, he gets engaged into amusement. When he becomes a youth, he becomes lover of adornment. When he becomes a little more grown up, then he makes it a habit to boast on his nobility and lineage. And when he enters the stage of old age, he has no interest left in anything except in multiplicity of wealth and children. And to this nature Quran has pointed out, which comes in general view at different stages of human life and man uncovers his own reality (facts of his nature) on and off.
Verse 22
3.By this misfortune is meant the natural disasters, whether related to the world or the self of a man. Otherwise there are so many disasters and calamities which have connection with the acts and character of man and it cannot be said that divine decree is responsible for that. It is a different matter that destiny is also decided in the light of human free will.
Verse 23
4.Amirul Momineen (a.s.) has said that total excellence of the pious is this that he does not feel sad for what he does not get, and is not proud at what he gets. After this it is not contrary to piety to have wealth, nor it is an excellence of abstinence and piety to live in a miserable condition.
