Verses 52–76

لَءَاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍۢ مِّن زَقُّومٍۢ﴿٥٢﴾

56:52will surely eat from the Zaqqum tree¹

فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ﴿٥٣﴾

56:53and stuff your bellies with it,

فَشَٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَمِيمِ﴿٥٤﴾

56:54and drink boiling water on top of it,

فَشَٰرِبُونَ شُرْبَ ٱلْهِيمِ﴿٥٥﴾

56:55drinking like thirsty camels.’²

هَٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ﴿٥٦﴾

56:56Such will be the hospitality they receive on the Day of Retribution.³

نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ﴿٥٧﴾

56:57We created you. Then why do you not acknowledge it?^*

أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ﴿٥٨﴾

56:58Have you considered the sperm that you emit?⁴

ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْخَٰلِقُونَ﴿٥٩﴾

56:59Is it you who create it, or are We the creator?

نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ﴿٦٠﴾

56:60We have ordained death among you, and We are not to be outmaneuvered⁵

عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ﴿٦١﴾

56:61from replacing you with your likes and recreating you in [a realm] you do not know.⁶

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ﴿٦٢﴾

56:62Certainly you have known the first genesis, then why do you not take admonition?⁷

أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ﴿٦٣﴾

56:63Have you considered what you sow?

ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ﴿٦٤﴾

56:64Is it you who make it grow, or are We the grower?

لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَٰهُ حُطَٰمًۭا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ﴿٦٥﴾

56:65If We wish, We turn it into chaff, whereat you are left stunned [saying to yourselves,]⁸⁹

إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ﴿٦٦﴾

56:66‘Indeed we have suffered loss!¹⁰

بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ﴿٦٧﴾

56:67No, we are deprived!’

أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلْمَآءَ ٱلَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ﴿٦٨﴾

56:68Have you considered the water that you drink?

ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنزِلُونَ﴿٦٩﴾

56:69Is it you who bring it down from the rain cloud, or is it We who bring [it] down?¹¹

لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَٰهُ أُجَاجًۭا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ﴿٧٠﴾

56:70If We wish We can make it bitter. Then why do you not give thanks?¹²

أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى تُورُونَ﴿٧١﴾

56:71Have you considered the fire that you kindle?¹³

ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ﴿٧٢﴾

56:72Was it you who caused its tree to grow, or were We the grower?

نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَٰهَا تَذْكِرَةًۭ وَمَتَٰعًۭا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ﴿٧٣﴾

56:73It was We who made it a reminder and a boon for the desert-dwellers.¹⁴¹⁵

فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ﴿٧٤﴾

56:74So celebrate the Name of your Lord, the All-supreme.

۞ فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ﴿٧٥﴾

56:75I swear by the places where the stars set!¹⁶¹⁷

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌۭ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ﴿٧٦﴾

56:76And indeed it is a great oath, should you know.
