Verses 77–96

إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرْءَانٌۭ كَرِيمٌۭ﴿٧٧﴾

56:77This is indeed a noble Quran,

فِى كِتَٰبٍۢ مَّكْنُونٍۢ﴿٧٨﴾

56:78in a guarded Book¹

لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ﴿٧٩﴾

56:79—no one touches it except the pure ones—²

تَنزِيلٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿٨٠﴾

56:80sent down gradually from the Lord of all the worlds.

أَفَبِهَٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ﴿٨١﴾

56:81What! Do you take lightly this discourse?³

وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ﴿٨٢﴾

56:82And make your denial of it your vocation?

فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ﴿٨٣﴾

56:83So when it reaches the throat [of the dying person],⁴

وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍۢ تَنظُرُونَ﴿٨٤﴾

56:84and at that moment you are looking on [at his bedside]

وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ﴿٨٥﴾

56:85—and We are nearer to him than you are, though you do not perceive—

فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ﴿٨٦﴾

56:86then why do you not restore it, if you are not subject⁵

تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ﴿٨٧﴾

56:87[to Divine dispensation], if you are truthful?

فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ﴿٨٨﴾

56:88Then, if he be of those brought near,

فَرَوْحٌۭ وَرَيْحَانٌۭ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍۢ﴿٨٩﴾

56:89then ease, abundance, and a garden of bliss.⁶⁷

وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ﴿٩٠﴾

56:90And if he be of the People of the Right Hand,

فَسَلَٰمٌۭ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ﴿٩١﴾

56:91then [he will be told,] ‘Peace be on you, from the People of the Right Hand!’

وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ﴿٩٢﴾

56:92But if he be of the impugners, the astray ones,

فَنُزُلٌۭ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍۢ﴿٩٣﴾

56:93then a treat of boiling water

وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ﴿٩٤﴾

56:94and entry into hell.⁸

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ﴿٩٥﴾

56:95Indeed this is certain truth.⁹

فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ﴿٩٦﴾

56:96So celebrate the Name of your Lord, the All-supreme!
