Verses 32–49

أَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ أَحْلَٰمُهُم بِهَٰذَآ ۚ أَمْ هُمْ قَوْمٌۭ طَاغُونَ﴿٣٢﴾

52:32Is it their intellect which prompts them to [say] this, or are they a rebellious lot?¹

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُۥ ۚ بَل لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ﴿٣٣﴾

52:33Do they say, ‘He has improvised it [himself]?’ Rather, they have no faith!²

فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ بِحَدِيثٍۢ مِّثْلِهِۦٓ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَٰدِقِينَ﴿٣٤﴾

52:34Let them bring a discourse like it, if they are truthful.^*

أَمْ خُلِقُوا۟ مِنْ غَيْرِ شَىْءٍ أَمْ هُمُ ٱلْخَٰلِقُونَ﴿٣٥﴾

52:35Were they created from nothing? Or are they [their own] creators?

أَمْ خَلَقُوا۟ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ ۚ بَل لَّا يُوقِنُونَ﴿٣٦﴾

52:36Did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they have no certainty!

أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَآئِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمُ ٱلْمُصَۣيْطِرُونَ﴿٣٧﴾

52:37Do they possess the treasuries of your Lord? Or do they control [them]?³

أَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌۭ يَسْتَمِعُونَ فِيهِ ۖ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُم بِسُلْطَٰنٍۢ مُّبِينٍ﴿٣٨﴾

52:38Do they have a ladder [leading up to heaven] whereby they eavesdrop? If so, let their eavesdropper produce a manifest authority.

أَمْ لَهُ ٱلْبَنَٰتُ وَلَكُمُ ٱلْبَنُونَ﴿٣٩﴾

52:39Does He have daughters while you have sons?

أَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ أَجْرًۭا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍۢ مُّثْقَلُونَ﴿٤٠﴾

52:40Do you ask them for a reward, so that they are [wary of] being weighed down with debt?⁴⁵

أَمْ عِندَهُمُ ٱلْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ﴿٤١﴾

52:41Do they have [access to] the Unseen, which they write down?

أَمْ يُرِيدُونَ كَيْدًۭا ۖ فَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْمَكِيدُونَ﴿٤٢﴾

52:42Do they seek to outmaneuver [Allah]? But it is the faithless who are the outmaneuvered ones!

أَمْ لَهُمْ إِلَٰهٌ غَيْرُ ٱللَّهِ ۚ سُبْحَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ﴿٤٣﴾

52:43Do they have any god other than Allah? Clear is Allah of any partners that they may ascribe [to Him]!

وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ كِسْفًۭا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ سَاقِطًۭا يَقُولُوا۟ سَحَابٌۭ مَّرْكُومٌۭ﴿٤٤﴾

52:44Were they to see a fragment falling from the sky, they would say, ‘A cumulous cloud.’⁶⁷

فَذَرْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى فِيهِ يُصْعَقُونَ﴿٤٥﴾

52:45So leave them until they encounter the day when they will be thunderstruck,⁸

يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْـًۭٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ﴿٤٦﴾

52:46the day when their guile will not avail them in any way, nor will they be helped.

وَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ عَذَابًۭا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ﴿٤٧﴾

52:47Indeed there is a punishment besides that for those who do wrong, but most of them do not know.

وَٱصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا ۖ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ﴿٤٨﴾

52:48So submit patiently to the judgement of your Lord, for indeed you fare before Our eyes. And celebrate the praise of your Lord when you rise [at dawn],⁹¹⁰

وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَإِدْبَٰرَ ٱلنُّجُومِ﴿٤٩﴾

52:49and also glorify Him during the night and at the receding of the stars.¹¹
