Verses 15–31

أَفَسِحْرٌ هَٰذَآ أَمْ أَنتُمْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ﴿١٥﴾

52:15Is this, then, [also] magic, or is it you who do not perceive?

ٱصْلَوْهَا فَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟ أَوْ لَا تَصْبِرُوا۟ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ إِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ﴿١٦﴾

52:16Enter it, and it will be the same for you whether you are patient or impatient. You are only being requited for what you used to do.’¹

إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍۢ وَنَعِيمٍۢ﴿١٧﴾

52:17Indeed the Godwary will be amid gardens and bliss,

فَٰكِهِينَ بِمَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ﴿١٨﴾

52:18rejoicing because of what their Lord has given them, and that their Lord has saved them from the punishment of hell.²

كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ﴿١٩﴾

52:19[They will be told:] ‘Enjoy your food and drink, [as a reward] for what you used to do.’³

مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍۢ مَّصْفُوفَةٍۢ ۖ وَزَوَّجْنَٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍۢ﴿٢٠﴾

52:20They will be reclining on arrayed couches, and We will wed them to big-eyed houris.⁴⁵

وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُم بِإِيمَٰنٍ أَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَمَآ أَلَتْنَٰهُم مِّنْ عَمَلِهِم مِّن شَىْءٍۢ ۚ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينٌۭ﴿٢١﴾

52:21The faithful and their descendants who followed them in faith—We will make their descendants join them, and We will not stint anything from [the reward of] their deeds. Every person is hostage to what he has earned.^*6

وَأَمْدَدْنَٰهُم بِفَٰكِهَةٍۢ وَلَحْمٍۢ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ﴿٢٢﴾

52:22We will provide them with fruits and meat, such as they desire.

يَتَنَٰزَعُونَ فِيهَا كَأْسًۭا لَّا لَغْوٌۭ فِيهَا وَلَا تَأْثِيمٌۭ﴿٢٣﴾

52:23There they will pass from hand to hand a cup wherein there will be neither any vain talk nor sinful speech.⁷

۞ وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ غِلْمَانٌۭ لَّهُمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لُؤْلُؤٌۭ مَّكْنُونٌۭ﴿٢٤﴾

52:24They will be waited upon by their youths, as if they were guarded pearls.⁸

وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍۢ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ﴿٢٥﴾

52:25They will turn to one another, questioning each other.

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبْلُ فِىٓ أَهْلِنَا مُشْفِقِينَ﴿٢٦﴾

52:26They will say, ‘Indeed, aforetime, we used to be apprehensive about our families.

فَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَوَقَىٰنَا عَذَابَ ٱلسَّمُومِ﴿٢٧﴾

52:27But Allah showed us favour and He saved us from the punishment of the [infernal] miasma.⁹

إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبْلُ نَدْعُوهُ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْبَرُّ ٱلرَّحِيمُ﴿٢٨﴾

52:28We used to supplicate Him aforetime. Indeed He is the All-benign, the All-merciful.’

فَذَكِّرْ فَمَآ أَنتَ بِنِعْمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنٍۢ وَلَا مَجْنُونٍ﴿٢٩﴾

52:29So admonish. By your Lord’s blessing, you are not a soothsayer, nor mad.¹⁰

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ شَاعِرٌۭ نَّتَرَبَّصُ بِهِۦ رَيْبَ ٱلْمَنُونِ﴿٣٠﴾

52:30Do they say, ‘[He is] a poet, for whom we await a fatal accident’?¹¹

قُلْ تَرَبَّصُوا۟ فَإِنِّى مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ﴿٣١﴾

52:31Say, ‘Wait! I too am waiting along with you.’
