Verses 57–82

وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّى لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ﴿٥٧﴾

37:57Had it not been for my Lord’s blessing, I too would have been among those mustered [in hell]!’

أَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ﴿٥٨﴾

37:58‘Is it [true] that we shall not die [anymore],

إِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ﴿٥٩﴾

37:59aside from our earlier death, and that we shall not be punished?

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ﴿٦٠﴾

37:60This is indeed the supreme triumph!’

لِمِثْلِ هَٰذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ ٱلْعَٰمِلُونَ﴿٦١﴾

37:61Let all workers work for the like of this!

أَذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌۭ نُّزُلًا أَمْ شَجَرَةُ ٱلزَّقُّومِ﴿٦٢﴾

37:62Is this a better reception, or the Zaqqum tree?

إِنَّا جَعَلْنَٰهَا فِتْنَةًۭ لِّلظَّٰلِمِينَ﴿٦٣﴾

37:63Indeed We have made it a punishment for the wrongdoers.

إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌۭ تَخْرُجُ فِىٓ أَصْلِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ﴿٦٤﴾

37:64It is a tree that rises from the depths of hell.

طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُۥ رُءُوسُ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينِ﴿٦٥﴾

37:65Its spathes are as if they were devils’ heads.

فَإِنَّهُمْ لَءَاكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ﴿٦٦﴾

37:66They will eat from it and gorge with it their bellies.

ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لَشَوْبًۭا مِّنْ حَمِيمٍۢ﴿٦٧﴾

37:67On top of that they will take a solution of scalding water.

ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَإِلَى ٱلْجَحِيمِ﴿٦٨﴾

37:68Then their retreat will be toward hell.

إِنَّهُمْ أَلْفَوْا۟ ءَابَآءَهُمْ ضَآلِّينَ﴿٦٩﴾

37:69They had found their fathers astray,

فَهُمْ عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَٰرِهِمْ يُهْرَعُونَ﴿٧٠﴾

37:70yet they press onwards in their footsteps.

وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ﴿٧١﴾

37:71Most of the former peoples went astray before them,

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِم مُّنذِرِينَ﴿٧٢﴾

37:72and We had certainly sent warners among them.

فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ﴿٧٣﴾

37:73So observe how was the fate of those who were warned

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ﴿٧٤﴾

37:74—[all] except Allah’s exclusive servants!

وَلَقَدْ نَادَىٰنَا نُوحٌۭ فَلَنِعْمَ ٱلْمُجِيبُونَ﴿٧٥﴾

37:75Certainly Noah called out to Us, and how well did We respond!

وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ﴿٧٦﴾

37:76We delivered him and his family from their great distress,

وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥ هُمُ ٱلْبَاقِينَ﴿٧٧﴾

37:77and made his descendants the survivors,¹

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْءَاخِرِينَ﴿٧٨﴾

37:78and left for him a good name among posterity:

سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٍۢ فِى ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿٧٩﴾

37:79‘Peace to Noah, throughout the nations!’

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ﴿٨٠﴾

37:80Thus do We reward the virtuous.

إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿٨١﴾

37:81He is indeed one of Our faithful servants.

ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا ٱلْءَاخَرِينَ﴿٨٢﴾

37:82Then We drowned the rest.
