Verses 4–29
37. As-Saaffaat · Those drawn up in Ranks
Makkan182 verses
إِنَّ إِلَٰهَكُمْ لَوَٰحِدٌۭ
37:4indeed your God is certainly One,
رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ ٱلْمَشَٰرِقِ
37:5the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, and the Lord of the easts.1
إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ ٱلْكَوَاكِبِ
37:6Indeed We have adorned the lowest heaven with the finery of the stars,
وَحِفْظًۭا مِّن كُلِّ شَيْطَٰنٍۢ مَّارِدٍۢ
37:7and to guard from any froward devil.
لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى ٱلْمَلَإِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍۢ
37:8They do not eavesdrop on the Supernal Elite—they are shot at from every side,
دُحُورًۭا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌۭ وَاصِبٌ
37:9to drive them away, and there is a perpetual punishment for them—
إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ ٱلْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌۭ ثَاقِبٌۭ
37:10except any who snatches a snatch, whereat a piercing flame pursues him.
فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَم مَّنْ خَلَقْنَآ ۚ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَٰهُم مِّن طِينٍۢ لَّازِبٍۭ
37:11Ask them, is their creation more prodigious or [that of other creatures] that We have created? Indeed, We created them from a viscous clay.
بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ
وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ لَا يَذْكُرُونَ
37:13and [even] when admonished do not take admonition,
وَإِذَا رَأَوْا۟ ءَايَةًۭ يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ
37:14and when they see a sign they make it an object of ridicule,
وَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌۭ مُّبِينٌ
37:15and say, ‘This is nothing but plain magic!’
أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًۭا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
37:16‘What! When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we be resurrected?
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ
37:17And our forefathers too?!’
قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنتُمْ دَٰخِرُونَ
37:18Say, ‘Yes! And you will be utterly humble.’
فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌۭ وَٰحِدَةٌۭ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنظُرُونَ
37:19It will be only a single shout and, behold, they will look on,
وَقَالُوا۟ يَٰوَيْلَنَا هَٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ
37:20and say, ‘Woe to us! This is the Day of Retribution!’
هَٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ
37:21‘This is the Day of Judgement that you used to deny!’
۞ ٱحْشُرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ وَأَزْوَٰجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْبُدُونَ
37:22‘Muster the wrongdoers and their mates and what they used to worship
مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَٱهْدُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
37:23besides Allah, and show them the way to hell!
وَقِفُوهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُم مَّسْـُٔولُونَ
37:24[But first] stop them! For they must be questioned.’
مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ
37:25‘Why is it that you do not support one another [today]?’
بَلْ هُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ
37:26‘Indeed, they are [meek and] submissive today!’
وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍۢ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
37:27Some of them will turn to others, questioning each other.
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
37:28They will say, ‘Indeed you used to accost us peremptorily.’3
قَالُوا۟ بَل لَّمْ تَكُونُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَ
37:29They will answer, ‘No, you [yourselves] had no faith.
Tafsir
Commentary on this passage
Verse 24
1.According to tradition you will be questioned about the love of Holy Prophet”s family on the Day of Judgment. This is the thing that the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) asked as the manner of recompense of his Prophethood and has made all the people responsible and answerable.

The place of rising of sun keeps changing everyday. And from this aspect there is majority in the East.

In the view of the Prophet their denial of Allah was astonishing and in their view the Prophet’s belief was a matter of jest. We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.

There are various meanings of the word ‘Yameen’ in Arabic. The land is also called Yameen and it is also used to imply bounty and strength. The right side is considered good by the Arabs. That is the misguiding ones used to come from right so that their arrival should be considered auspicious and people may agree with them.
Benefit
Mukhlis (Sincere) is that person who passes all the tests of self and desires that all his actions should be for Allah. And sincere is one who has passed all these tests and proved his sincerity to Allah. And in his eyes, except for the Jalwa (miracle) of Lord there is nothing. Obviously the reward of such people will be higher than others.
