Verses 22–37

وَمَا لِىَ لَآ أَعْبُدُ ٱلَّذِى فَطَرَنِى وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ﴿٢٢﴾

36:22Why should I not worship Him who has originated me, and to whom you shall be brought back?

ءَأَتَّخِذُ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةً إِن يُرِدْنِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ بِضُرٍّۢ لَّا تُغْنِ عَنِّى شَفَٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًۭٔا وَلَا يُنقِذُونِ﴿٢٣﴾

36:23Shall I take gods besides Him? If the All-beneficent desired to cause me any distress, their intercession will not avail me in any way, nor will they rescue me.

إِنِّىٓ إِذًۭا لَّفِى ضَلَٰلٍۢ مُّبِينٍ﴿٢٤﴾

36:24Indeed, then I would be in manifest error.

إِنِّىٓ ءَامَنتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ فَٱسْمَعُونِ﴿٢٥﴾

36:25Indeed I have faith in your Lord, so listen to me.’

قِيلَ ٱدْخُلِ ٱلْجَنَّةَ ۖ قَالَ يَٰلَيْتَ قَوْمِى يَعْلَمُونَ﴿٢٦﴾

36:26He was told, ‘Enter paradise!’ He said, ‘Alas! Had my people only known^*

بِمَا غَفَرَ لِى رَبِّى وَجَعَلَنِى مِنَ ٱلْمُكْرَمِينَ﴿٢٧﴾

36:27for what my Lord forgave me and made me one of the honoured ones!’

۞ وَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ مِن جُندٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا كُنَّا مُنزِلِينَ﴿٢٨﴾

36:28After him We did not send down on his people a host from the sky, nor We would have sent down.¹

إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ فَإِذَا هُمْ خَٰمِدُونَ﴿٢٩﴾

36:29It was but a single Cry, and, behold, they were stilled [like burnt ashes]!

يَٰحَسْرَةً عَلَى ٱلْعِبَادِ ۚ مَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ﴿٣٠﴾

36:30How regrettable of the servants! There did not come to them any apostle but that they used to deride him.

أَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ لَا يَرْجِعُونَ﴿٣١﴾

36:31Have they not regarded how many generations We have destroyed before them who will not come back to them?²

وَإِن كُلٌّۭ لَّمَّا جَمِيعٌۭ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ﴿٣٢﴾

36:32And all of them will indeed be presented before Us.³

وَءَايَةٌۭ لَّهُمُ ٱلْأَرْضُ ٱلْمَيْتَةُ أَحْيَيْنَٰهَا وَأَخْرَجْنَا مِنْهَا حَبًّۭا فَمِنْهُ يَأْكُلُونَ﴿٣٣﴾

36:33A sign for them is the dead earth, which We revive and bring forth grain out of it, so they eat of it.^*

وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا جَنَّٰتٍۢ مِّن نَّخِيلٍۢ وَأَعْنَٰبٍۢ وَفَجَّرْنَا فِيهَا مِنَ ٱلْعُيُونِ﴿٣٤﴾

36:34We make in it orchards of date palms and vines, and We cause springs to gush forth in it,^*

لِيَأْكُلُوا۟ مِن ثَمَرِهِۦ وَمَا عَمِلَتْهُ أَيْدِيهِمْ ۖ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ﴿٣٥﴾

36:35so that they may eat of its fruit and what their hands have cultivated. Will they not then give thanks?

سُبْحَٰنَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلْأَزْوَٰجَ كُلَّهَا مِمَّا تُنۢبِتُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَمِنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَمِمَّا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ﴿٣٦﴾

36:36Immaculate is He who has created all the kinds of what the earth grows, and of themselves, and of what they do not know.^*

وَءَايَةٌۭ لَّهُمُ ٱلَّيْلُ نَسْلَخُ مِنْهُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فَإِذَا هُم مُّظْلِمُونَ﴿٣٧﴾

36:37A sign for them is the night, which We strip of daylight, and, behold, they find themselves in the dark!^*
