35. Faatir · The Originator

Makkan45 verses

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ فَاطِرِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ جَاعِلِ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ رُسُلًا أُو۟لِىٓ أَجْنِحَةٍۢ مَّثْنَىٰ وَثُلَٰثَ وَرُبَٰعَ ۚ يَزِيدُ فِى ٱلْخَلْقِ مَا يَشَآءُ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدِيرٌۭ

35:1All praise belongs to Allah, originator of the heavens and the earth, maker of the angels [His] messengers, possessing wings, two, three or four [of them]. He adds to the creation whatever He wishes. Indeed Allah has power over all things.3

مَّا يَفْتَحِ ٱللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ مِن رَّحْمَةٍۢ فَلَا مُمْسِكَ لَهَا ۖ وَمَا يُمْسِكْ فَلَا مُرْسِلَ لَهُۥ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ

35:2Whatever mercy Allah unfolds for the people, no one can withhold it; and whatever He withholds no one can release it except Him, and He is the All-mighty, the All-wise.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ ٱذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ ۚ هَلْ مِنْ خَٰلِقٍ غَيْرُ ٱللَّهِ يَرْزُقُكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤْفَكُونَ

35:3O mankind! Remember Allah’s blessing upon you! Is there any creator other than Allah who provides for you from the sky and the earth? There is no god except Him. So where do you stray?

Tafsir

Commentary on this passage

Verse 1

1.Two points are clarified from this blessed verse. (1) Angels are creatures, having a body like human beings and their particularities are like bodily particulars. They are not entirely spiritual or like bright light. (2) Angels use their wings to fly and their wings are of different types. Some have two, some three, four or more wings. Their strength is not mentioned. Now, the Holy Quran has not stated what are wings, what is their nature, style etc., so there is no need to argue about it without reasons.

Verse 2

2.The circle of Allah’s favour is very vast. It includes wealth, knowledge, health, safety and others. Many things are included in it. His favours and bounties are innumerable and their counting is impossible. To limit the favours to Allah to some particular meaning is absolutely wrong. On the contrary some people have also said that sleepmg on thorns is like sleepmg in a cradle if the mercy of Allah is with you. And deprivation from Allah’s favor makes a silky bed a bed of thorns.

    ‘Two, ‘threes’ and ‘four’ are used in place of two two three three and four four. In Arabic no other number is used beyond this. For example fives and sixes etc.
