34:49Say, ‘The truth has come, and falsehood neither originates nor restores [anything].’

34:50Say, ‘If I go astray, my going astray is only to my own harm, and if I am rightly guided that is because of what my Lord has revealed to me. Indeed He is all-hearing and nearmost.’1

34:51Were you to see them when they will be stricken with terror, without any escape, and are seized from a close quarter.*

34:52They will say, ‘We believe in it [now]!’ But how can they attain it from a far-off place,

34:53when they denied it in the past—shooting at something invisible from a far-off place—2

34:54and a barrier is set between them and what they desire, as was done aforetime with their likes, who had remained in grave doubt?

Explanations of words and phrases in these verses

  1. Benefit

Please note that after the arrival of truth, falsehood has two stages: The explanation of the truth through the thoughts will make falsehood powerless which has been the fate of Platonic philosophy. Secondly, the arrival of truth shall be destroyed with leadership and the leadership of falsehood shall be destroyed which has proved true in some instances. The complete example shall soon be revealed.

  2. 1

A really subtle way of propagation that misguidance is kept limited to oneself and guidance is shown as the consequence of revelation. This way the minds shall be automatically turned towards Allah.

  3. Benefit

The near place in 51st ayat shows that the punishment is not arranged from a distant place. Firon sank in his river. Qaroon went down in his earth. Shaddad in his Paradise. The past nations were destroyed in their own towns. Finally the Sufyani shall also be killed in his own area. Although everything in the world can mislead us, the main occupation of Shaitan is to misguide people and take revenge of Adam (a.s.). That is why he is called arrogant and deceptive.

  4. 2

It is also a humorous way to say that the infidels shall be caught from nearby and they could not acquire belief because they were far. That is, on the day of Qiyamat they shall be nearest to punishment and farthest from faith- when they did not become believers in this world how can they do so in Qiyamat? Qiyamat is the stage of accounting ofbe1ief and deeds!
