30:50So observe the effects of Allah’s mercy: how He revives the earth after its death! Indeed He is the reviver of the dead, and He has power over all things.

30:51And if We send a wind and they see it turn yellow, they will surely become ungrateful after that.1

30:52Indeed you cannot make the dead hear, nor can you make the deaf hear the call when they turn their backs [upon you],

30:53nor can you lead the blind out of their error. You can make only those hear who have faith in Our signs and have submitted.

30:54It is Allah who created you from [a state of] weakness, then He gave you power after weakness. Then, after power, He ordained weakness and old age: He creates whatever He wishes, and He is the All-knowing, the All-powerful.

30:55On the day when the Hour sets in, the guilty will swear that they had remained only for an hour. That is how they were used to lying [in the world].2

30:56But those who were given knowledge and faith will say, ‘Certainly you remained in Allah’s Book until the Day of Resurrection. This is the Day of Resurrection, but you did not know.’

30:57On that day, the excuses of the wrongdoers will not benefit them, nor will they be asked to propitiate [Allah].

30:58Certainly we have drawn for mankind in this Quran every [kind of] parable. Indeed if you bring them a sign, the faithless will surely say, ‘You are nothing but fabricators!’

Commentary on this passage

Verse 54

1.Human being passes through many stages. In the initial stage he is extremely weak in the form of sperm, that can he destroyed in this stage. There is no capability of priority even if one dislikes it and after that Allah gives strength in the stage of youth and he becomes strong. He throws up a scaling ladder towards the skies and tries to overcome the stars. In the later stage of his old age, he becomes weak again and it seems that a man becomes incapable, the first stage has been repeated. Man still does not take lesson and becomes proud and there is no intellect left in him that He it is Who has passed him through different stages. And Allah has power over all things.

Explanations of words and phrases in these verses

  1. Benefit

It should be clear that beneficial breezes are called Riyah and destructive wind is called Reehas, it blows once in a while. In the same way the word Yastabsheroon is used for beneficial winds and after the ‘Simoom’ the word Yakferoon is used so that the effects of both types of winds become apparent.

  2. 1

This pronoun refers to agriculture which is understood from the context, otherwise there is no reference to agriculture in the ayat. Some consider that wind is referred to.

  3. 2

The foolish people do not understand anything and try to achieve this. Whether man lives in the world for an hour or for a thousand years, he has to give account of his deeds. And the one who is going to take the account cannot be fooled by the quantity or the quality of the deeds. He is aware of everything. It becomes clear from the ayat that knowledge alone is insufficient to understand the realities, belief is also ncessary and the knowledge and belief that is bestowed by Providence. Not the knowledge that is gained by effort and belief which is based on personal opinion. Till the Tawfeeq is not given by the Almighty.

  4. Benefit

Two things are ordered at the close of the chapter. Patience and Sobriety. A good news is also conveyed. That is success. Because success is not possible without patience and sobriety.
