30:42Say, ‘Travel over the land, and see how was the fate of those who were before [you], most of whom were polytheists.’

30:43So set your heart on the upright religion, before there comes a day irrevocable from Allah. On that day they shall be split [into various groups].

30:44Whoever is faithless shall face the consequences of his faithlessness, and those who act righteously only prepare for their own souls,1

30:45so that He may reward those who have faith and do righteous deeds out of His grace. Indeed, He does not like the faithless.

30:46And of His signs is that He sends the winds as bearers of good news and to let you taste of His mercy, and that the ships may sail by His command, and that you may seek of His bounty, and so that you may give [Him] thanks.2

30:47Certainly We sent apostles to their people before you, and they brought them manifest proofs. Then We took vengeance upon those who were guilty, and it was a must for Us to help the faithful.

30:48It is Allah who sends the winds. Then they generate a cloud, then He spreads it as He wishes in the sky, and forms it into fragments, whereat you see the rain issuing from its midst. Then, when He strikes with it whomever of His servants that He wishes, behold, they rejoice;

30:49and indeed they had been despondent earlier, before it was sent down upon them.

Commentary on this passage

Verse 46

1.Wind is one of the greatest bounties of Allah. It cannot be seen and it is extremely true that a man does not feel its heaviness. But instead, we get many benefits and a few benefits are mentioned in the verse of the Holy Quran. (1) The wind gives the news of future and a man becomes pleased and satisfied. The wind gives news that the rainy season will start, and whether the rain is late or early. (2) The wind brings the taste of blessings with it. So we opine how Allah is pleased and kind on these people that He has made it a resource of breathing, otherwise we would find it difficult to breathe. (3) Wind is the source of the sailing boats in the sea. If there was no wind, the travelers of the sea would stay in one place and the reciprocal system of the world would be upset. Today, the custom of sailing in the sea is over and now radio, television etc. are working on airwaves. (4) Wind is the best source of sustenance from Allah and people obtain their sustenance by the source of wind. (5) Wind is the best support of gratitude to Allah if a man would not be ungrateful.
