Makkan227 verses

26:91and hell will be brought into view for the perverse,

26:92and they shall be told: ‘Where is that which you used to worship

26:93besides Allah? Do they help you, or do they help each other?’

26:94Then they will be cast into it on their faces—they and the perverse,1

26:95and the hosts of Iblis all together.

26:96They will say, as they wrangle in it [together],

26:97‘By Allah, we had indeed been in manifest error

26:98when we equated you with the Lord of all the worlds!

26:99No one led us astray except the guilty.

26:100Now we have no intercessors,

26:101nor do we have any sympathetic friend.2

26:102Had there been another turn for us, we would be among the faithful.’

26:103There is indeed a sign in that; but most of them do not have faith.

26:104Indeed your Lord is the All-mighty, the All-merciful.

26:105The people of Noah impugned the apostles

26:106when Noah, their brother, said to them, ‘Will you not be wary [of Allah]?

26:107Indeed I am a trusted apostle [sent] to you.

26:108So be wary of Allah and obey me.

26:109I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward lies only with the Lord of all the worlds.

26:110So be wary of Allah and obey me.’

26:111They said, ‘Shall we believe in you, when it is the riffraff who follow you?’

26:112He said, ‘What do I know as to what they used to do?3

26:113Their reckoning is only with my Lord, should you be aware.

26:114I will not drive away the faithful.4

26:115I am just a manifest warner.’

26:116They said, ‘Noah, if you do not desist, you will certainly be stoned [to death].’

26:117He said, ‘My Lord! Indeed my people have impugned me.

Commentary on this passage

Verse 96

1.What a bad luck of these misled people that they obey one another in this world and agree with each other in their opinions and then quarrel about while moving towards hell that who is guilty and who is responsible of misleading, who has misled and to whom? Would that! If they would quarrel this point in the world, they would not have to face the hard time in the hereafter. Its clear aim is that if there is no malediction from falsification in the principle of any religion, they will have to express disapproval in hell. This is another thing that it will not be useful to him because its place is in the world and not the Hereafter. Which is why, announce disgust from the falsification here so that you can get the reward there. No use arguing there.

Verse 106

2.This is the miracle of love and kindness of Apostles that they do not come to people as kings or leaders but they come to them as brothers and work with them with kindness so that feelings of kinship are created in their mind and this feeling can make them ready to obey him and perhaps they follow the right path.

Footnotes

Explanations of words and phrases in these verses

  1. 1

Kab itself means to fall down. Kabkab is its repetition. That is to push headlong.

  2. 2

Sadeeq Hameem - Sincere loving friend. According to a tradition of Nurus Saqalain Shafe-een are the holy Imams (a.s.) and the Sadeeq Hameem are the believers who would be useful even in the worst times. Benefit: the story of the people of Hud (a.s.) proves that to be arrogant about ones high palaces and to feel that one shall be safe forever in high places of residence are some of the worst deeds of a people that can cause their annihilation.

  3. 3

This is not a statement about ones ignorance. It is the expression of a view that when man repents and returns to the right path then he should not be accounted and his affair should be entrusted to the Almighty.

  4. 4

If the dignity of prophethood does not allow the expulsion of the believers from his assembly, what can be said of those who were expelled by the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) himself?
