Verses 44–64

فَأَلْقَوْا۟ حِبَالَهُمْ وَعِصِيَّهُمْ وَقَالُوا۟ بِعِزَّةِ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلْغَٰلِبُونَ﴿٤٤﴾

26:44So they threw down their sticks and ropes, and said, ‘By the might of Pharaoh, we shall surely be victorious!’¹

فَأَلْقَىٰ مُوسَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِىَ تَلْقَفُ مَا يَأْفِكُونَ﴿٤٥﴾

26:45Thereat Moses threw down his staff, and behold, it was swallowing what they had faked.

فَأُلْقِىَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ سَٰجِدِينَ﴿٤٦﴾

26:46Thereat the magicians fell down prostrating.

قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿٤٧﴾

26:47They said, ‘We believe in the Lord of all the worlds,

رَبِّ مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ﴿٤٨﴾

26:48the Lord of Moses and Aaron.’

قَالَ ءَامَنتُمْ لَهُۥ قَبْلَ أَنْ ءَاذَنَ لَكُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكَبِيرُكُمُ ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَكُمُ ٱلسِّحْرَ فَلَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ ۚ لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُم مِّنْ خِلَٰفٍۢ وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿٤٩﴾

26:49He [i.e. Pharaoh] said, ‘Do you profess faith in Him before I should permit you? He is indeed your chief who has taught you magic! Soon you will know! I will cut off your hands and feet from opposite sides, and I will crucify you all.’

قَالُوا۟ لَا ضَيْرَ ۖ إِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا مُنقَلِبُونَ﴿٥٠﴾

26:50They said, ‘[There is] no harm [in that]! Indeed, we shall return to our Lord.²

إِنَّا نَطْمَعُ أَن يَغْفِرَ لَنَا رَبُّنَا خَطَٰيَٰنَآ أَن كُنَّآ أَوَّلَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿٥١﴾

26:51Indeed we hope our Lord will forgive us our offences for being the first to believe.’

۞ وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنْ أَسْرِ بِعِبَادِىٓ إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ﴿٥٢﴾

26:52Then We revealed to Moses, [saying],‘Set out with My servants at night, for you will be pursued.’

فَأَرْسَلَ فِرْعَوْنُ فِى ٱلْمَدَآئِنِ حَٰشِرِينَ﴿٥٣﴾

26:53Then Pharaoh sent heralds to the cities,

إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَشِرْذِمَةٌۭ قَلِيلُونَ﴿٥٤﴾

26:54[proclaiming:] ‘These are indeed a small band.

وَإِنَّهُمْ لَنَا لَغَآئِظُونَ﴿٥٥﴾

26:55They have aroused our wrath,

وَإِنَّا لَجَمِيعٌ حَٰذِرُونَ﴿٥٦﴾

26:56and we are alert and fully prepared.’

فَأَخْرَجْنَٰهُم مِّن جَنَّٰتٍۢ وَعُيُونٍۢ﴿٥٧﴾

26:57So We took them out of gardens and springs,

وَكُنُوزٍۢ وَمَقَامٍۢ كَرِيمٍۢ﴿٥٨﴾

26:58and [made them leave behind] treasures and stately homes.

كَذَٰلِكَ وَأَوْرَثْنَٰهَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ﴿٥٩﴾

26:59So it was; and We bequeathed them to the Children of Israel.

فَأَتْبَعُوهُم مُّشْرِقِينَ﴿٦٠﴾

26:60Then they pursued them at sunrise.

فَلَمَّا تَرَٰٓءَا ٱلْجَمْعَانِ قَالَ أَصْحَٰبُ مُوسَىٰٓ إِنَّا لَمُدْرَكُونَ﴿٦١﴾

26:61When the two hosts sighted each other, the companions of Moses said, ‘Indeed we have been caught up.’³

قَالَ كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّ مَعِىَ رَبِّى سَيَهْدِينِ﴿٦٢﴾

26:62He said, ‘Certainly not! Indeed my Lord is with me. He will guide me.’

فَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنِ ٱضْرِب بِّعَصَاكَ ٱلْبَحْرَ ۖ فَٱنفَلَقَ فَكَانَ كُلُّ فِرْقٍۢ كَٱلطَّوْدِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ﴿٦٣﴾

26:63Thereupon We revealed to Moses: ‘Strike the sea with your staff!’ Whereupon it parted, and each part was as if it were a great mountain.

وَأَزْلَفْنَا ثَمَّ ٱلْءَاخَرِينَ﴿٦٤﴾

26:64There, We brought the others near,
