22:73O people! Listen to a parable that is being drawn: Indeed those whom you invoke besides Allah will never create [even] a fly even if they all rallied to do so! And if a fly should take away something from them, they can not recover that from it. Feeble is the seeker and the sought!

22:74They do not regard Allah with the regard due to Him. Indeed Allah is all-strong, all-mighty.

22:75Allah chooses messengers from angels and from mankind. Indeed Allah is all-hearing, all-seeing.1

22:76He knows that which is before them and that which is behind them, and to Allah all matters are returned.

22:77O you who have faith! Bow down and prostrate yourselves, and worship your Lord, and do good, so that you may be felicitous.

22:78And wage jihad for the sake of Allah, a jihad which is worthy of Him. He has chosen you and has not placed for you any obstacle in the religion, the faith of your father, Abraham. He named you ‘Muslims’ before, and in this, so that the Apostle may be a witness to you, and that you may be witnesses to mankind. So maintain the prayer, give the zakat, and hold fast to Allah. He is your master—an excellent master and an excellent helper.23

Commentary on this passage

Verse 73

1.The announcement of the truth of religiousness and ignorance of polytheism cannot be more evident. A Human can witness his own helplessness and despite it declares himself to be the God of universe. This is madness. It is true that intelligence is that by which a man presents himself before Allah and whatever is left is devilishness and not wisdom.

Verse 77

2.These are the basic factors of human life that he should prostrate and make obeisance to Allah and should pray to Allah in the entire span of life and follow the way according to His will and do good in the society and then prepare himself to sacrifice for the protection of religion by self and wealth.

Verse 78

3.For inducement of religious war, the following points are indicated in this place (a) Allah has chosen you for the religious war and you have to complete this work. (b) There is no useless effort in war as there is no conjecture in the religion of Allah and fortification is effort through hard work. (c) This is the method of your father Ibrahim (a.s.) who broke all the idols, temples and has fought in the way of Allah. (d) Allah has called you Muslims and Muslim is the name of obedient people. Rebellious and refractory people are not Muslims (e) You are made witness of people’s action and witness do not become weak due to character.
