Commentary on this passage
Verse 72
1.Be it known that a man has control over some parts of his body in his hypocrisy and deceitful manners and some parts of his body are out of his control. He can use his tongue in every wrong manner and can take service deceitfully of his hands and legs but has no control on the movements of his eyes and facial complexion and whenever any good or had will happen, its effects will appear on his face and his eyes will be backbite about the heart’s condition. What inconvenience do the hypocrites develop by the verses of Quran and how unpalatable are these verses to them. We cannot gauge it by their talk but we find the possibility of traits of character of hypocrisy in it. It is their face that makes this trait unveiled and it is not possible to keep a secret of it. Some people say that different kinds of ink and dark coloured goggles have been invented for only this that the condition of heart cannot be evaluated by the opposite party but a question arises that how can it be kept secret from Him, One Who is the knower of the condition of heart and how can hypocrisy and craftiness be successful in His court?
Footnotes
Explanations of words and phrases in these verses
- 1
Kafoor: One who denies or one who does not acknowledge the bounty. It is not the nature of man - It is rather his behaviour and this is indicated time and again.
Benefit
The 67th ayat indicates that all Shariats were promulgated by Almighty Allah. They were abrogated and renewed depending on the circumstances. Therefore there is no scope of argument in this matter.
- 2
Mansak - Place of worship. Here it denotes law and Shariat. Nasik is one who acts on the law and is busy in worship.
- 3
Sultan - Proof and conclusive argument. Munkar - Disliked thing. It is derived from ‘Inkar’ No arrival of proof from Allah and their personal ignorance about the matter shows that the divinity of all except Allah is neither based on nature nor it is derivative that supporting argument should come from Allah. Thus when there is no such thing it means that there is nothing.
Benefit
The 72nd ayat proves that people who do not have proof are even ready for a physical tight. They consider this a means for their success. Although the Lord of the worlds has clearly announced that this will finally lead to Hell. The believers may have to bear persecution at the hands of the infidels but how can the disbelievers bear the punishment of Hell?
