Commentary on this passage
Verse 26
1.As the Lord conferred upon her a child from the Unseen, so also gave her the ability to confront the situation and made her eyes, the conduit for the same. Maryam (a.s.) utilized this Divine channel and signalled the nation: Confer with the child. The nation queried: How are we to converse with this infant, who has not even grown out of the cradle? While the difficult aspect was not the speech of the tribe but the hard part was to make an infant speak. But it was the arrangement of Allah that He made the people accept their vulnerability but did not let His Representative be deemed helpless.
2.It is strange that the Messenger of God calls himself as God’s servant while his adherents call him as the son of God. This is an indication that this custom is in prevalence from times bygone. That is, to believe in an individual does not mean that whatever he exhorts is also adhered to. Rather the majority believe in the individual and follow the instructions. The difference being that this was the activity of Christians to begin with but now Muslims and even the Faithful are occupied in it by not performing the religious duties despite firm belief. Though they consider themselves as the most firm of believers. And the more he is recognized as a believer, the more he is involved in immoral and evil acts.
