بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

الٓر ۚ كِتَٰبٌ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ إِلَيْكَ لِتُخْرِجَ ٱلنَّاسَ مِنَ ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَمِيدِ

14:1Alif, Lam, Ra. [This is] a Book We have sent down to you that you may bring mankind out from darkness into light, by the command of their Lord, to the path of the All-mighty, the All-laudable

ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ وَوَيْلٌۭ لِّلْكَٰفِرِينَ مِنْ عَذَابٍۢ شَدِيدٍ

14:2—Allah, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Woe to the faithless for a severe punishment

ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْتَحِبُّونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا عَلَى ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ وَيَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًا ۚ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ فِى ضَلَٰلٍۭ بَعِيدٍۢ

14:3—those who prefer the life of this world to the Hereafter, and bar [others] from the way of Allah, and seek to make it crooked. They are in extreme error.2

وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا بِلِسَانِ قَوْمِهِۦ لِيُبَيِّنَ لَهُمْ ۖ فَيُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ

14:4We did not send any apostle except with the language of his people, so that he might make [Our messages] clear to them. Then Allah leads astray whomever He wishes, and He guides whomsoever He wishes, and He is the All-mighty, the All-wise.

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآ أَنْ أَخْرِجْ قَوْمَكَ مِنَ ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِ وَذَكِّرْهُم بِأَيَّىٰمِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍۢ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٍۢ شَكُورٍۢ

14:5Certainly We sent Moses with Our signs: ‘Bring your people out from darkness into light and remind them of Allah’s [holy] days. There are indeed signs in that for every patient and grateful [servant].’3

Tafsir

Commentary on this passage

Verse 1

2.The main aim and intention of the Prophethood and revelation of the holy books was to take out people from darkness and deviation and take them to the righteous path, otherwise it would be enough to sit in a lonely comer and tell the beads and declare of god’s unity. What was the need of a Holy book and Prophethood? This can be done by dry mysticism.

Verse 4

3.To reveal Quran in the language of common people or to send in the language of people whose mother tongue is a particular language is a different thing. Allah has sent His Apostles with Arabic language but not for the Arabs alone. If any language were better than Arabic language Allah would have revealed His messages in that language.

Explanations of words and phrases in these verses

    Here Istehbaab denotes the preferring of this world to the Hereafter which is the consequence of the nature of every infidel. Even after reciting the Kalema he remains an infidel in the real sense.

    The days of Allah are those when Allah shows some special miracle or bounty and there had been many such instances for Bani Israel. However, they never valued the divine bounties and continued to deny them

  3. Benefit

    The singularity of the word ‘Nur’ indicates its unity and the plurality of the word ‘zulomaat’ denotes its despicable nature. The word ‘Akhrij’ indicates that to establish Quranic dictates there is need for a responsible entity. If Akhrij is not created in an action, man shall remain in darkness.
