Commentary on this passage

Verse 1

3.There is no doubt in that Allah has given to His Prophet so much of good and abundance that it is not given to anyone else. Limit is this that his enemy is made Abtar (Issueless). And his generation was caused to finish and the Prophet’s generation was saved till the day of judgement through Fatimah Zahra (s.a.). And for that only prayer and sacrifice is demanded from him. That is the reason that whenever man gets a bounty it is his duty to thank Allah and the best way to thank Allah is to establish prayer and sacrifice in the way of Allah.

Footnotes

Explanations of words and phrases in these verses

  1. 6

Kauthar - It is derived from Kathrat on the weight of ‘Faol...’ that is in excess. One of its explanation is the Hauz-e-Kauthar. And also the Infallible Lady (Fatima).

  2. 7

    Nahr - Camel-slaughter.

  3. 8

Shaani - enemy. 9. Abtar - whose progeny is cut off.

  4. Benefit

The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) had two sons, Qasim and Tahir (who is also called Abdullah) from Janabe Khatijah. Both of them died in Mecca and people began to call him Abtar. Ibrahim was born in the 8th Hijri in Medina.

This ayat has no connection with this. He also died in the 10th Hijri. This Surah has the glad tidings of great goodness, continuity of progeny and destruction of enemies. This is one of the miracles of Holy Quran.

Benefit: The 6th ayat is a sort of restriction. It is not an invitation for justification of polytheism and neither it is possible for the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) to tolerate polytheism. Also, the disbelievers did not oppose that Allah was the Creator but they were in any case deniers of Tauheed in worship.
