10. Yunus · Jonas

Makkan109 verses

10:62Look! The friends of Allah will indeed have no fear nor will they grieve

10:63—those who have faith and are Godwary.

10:64For them is good news in the life of this world and in the Hereafter. (There is no altering the words of Allah.) That is the great success.

10:65Do not grieve at their remarks; indeed all might belongs to Allah; He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing.

10:66Look! To Allah indeed belongs whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth. What do they pursue who invoke partners besides Allah? They merely follow conjectures and they just make surmises.

10:67It is He who made the night for you, that you may rest in it, and the day to provide visibility. There are indeed signs in that for people who listen.

10:68They say, ‘Allah has taken a son!’ Immaculate is He! He is the All-sufficient. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. You have no authority for this [statement]. Do you attribute to Allah what you do not know?

10:69Say, ‘Indeed those who fabricate lies against Allah will not be felicitous.’

10:70An enjoyment in this world; then to Us shall be their return, then We shall make them taste the severe punishment because of what they used to defy.

Commentary on this passage

Verse 62

1.People ask why there is no fear or grief for Apostles, while these words are used for the believers and Apostles and it is proved that they will have no fear and sorrow in the hereafter? Anyhow it can happen in the world hut apparently this connotation is general and its intention is that due to faith in Allah and His fear Apostles are not fearful of anything else. They always obey the commands of Allah. Therefore they do not become sad and grieved of their action or deeds. Also, the fear and sorrow mentioned in the traditions and verses denote something else as Amirul Momineen (a,s.) has stated that Moosa (a.s.) had no fear of serpents but feared his people’s deviation.

At another place sorrow denotes sadness or according to the incidence of parables. Otherwise in the meaning of regret, sorrow and sadness definitely cannot apply to the Apostles of Allah this is absolutely clear.

Footnotes

Explanations of words and phrases in these verses

  1. Benefit

The awliya of Allah are those who have reached such a stage of divine recognition that they could view the miracle of Lordship every moment. These people are absolutely unaffected by worldly sorrows. They are neither scared of the world nor worried of its destruction.

  2. 1

The believers have the glad tidings for this world as well as for the Hereafter. The happiness for the world is that their faith is perfect and their piety is fruitful and Allah is with them. As for the Hereafter they are blessed with Paradise and its bounties.

  3. 2

In Surah Munafiqoon, honour is mentioned for Allah, the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) and the believers. That is the actual honour belongs to Allah and through Him the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) is honoured and the believers as well.

  4. 3

Firstly these partners are a mistaken notion. There is nothing more to it.

  5. Benefit

Imam Sadiq (a.s.) has explained ‘Bushra’ to mean that the believers will be bestowed with the vision of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) and Ali (a.s.) at the time of death. And this is the greatest bounty of the universe.
