The Power, Fate · verses 1–5

Makkan5 verses

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةِ ٱلْقَدْرِ

97:1Indeed We sent it down on the Night of Ordainment.2

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا لَيْلَةُ ٱلْقَدْرِ

97:2And what will show you what is the Night of Ordainment?

لَيْلَةُ ٱلْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌۭ مِّنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍۢ

97:3The Night of Ordainment is better than a thousand months.

تَنَزَّلُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِم مِّن كُلِّ أَمْرٍۢ

97:4In it the angels and the Spirit descend, by the leave of their Lord, with every command.34

سَلَٰمٌ هِىَ حَتَّىٰ مَطْلَعِ ٱلْفَجْرِ

97:5It is peaceful until the rising of the dawn.5

Tafsir

Commentary on this passage

Verse 1

1.Shab-e-Qadr is said to be the nights of 19, 21 or 23 of the month of Ramadhan. In which series of revelation of Quran started. And this night’s worth is more than a thousand months. In this night destiny of all the creatures is determined. It is the duty of everyone to pass this night in prayers and recitations to make ones destiny. However in some countries Shab-e-Qadr has also become a night of entertainment and committing disapproved acts. It is apparent that if by way of esteem one night can be better than a thousand months then in Khandaq Ali’s (a.s.) one stroke can also be better than the worship of Thaqalayn (men and spirits). As the master of the two worlds (Prophet) himself had declared.
