Verses 1–18

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ﴿١﴾

92:1By the night when it envelops,

وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ﴿٢﴾

92:2by the day when it brightens,

وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ﴿٣﴾

92:3by Him who created the male and the female:⁷

إِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتَّىٰ﴿٤﴾

92:4your endeavours are indeed diverse.

فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَىٰ وَٱتَّقَىٰ﴿٥﴾

92:5As for him who gives and is Godwary

وَصَدَّقَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ﴿٦﴾

92:6and confirms the best promise,⁸

فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ﴿٧﴾

92:7We will surely ease him toward facility.

وَأَمَّا مَنۢ بَخِلَ وَٱسْتَغْنَىٰ﴿٨﴾

92:8But as for him, who is stingy and self-complacent,

وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ﴿٩﴾

92:9and denies the best promise,

فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْعُسْرَىٰ﴿١٠﴾

92:10We will surely ease him toward hardship.⁹

وَمَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُ مَالُهُۥٓ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰٓ﴿١١﴾

92:11His wealth will not avail him when he perishes.¹⁰

إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدَىٰ﴿١٢﴾

92:12Indeed guidance rests with Us,

وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلْءَاخِرَةَ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ﴿١٣﴾

92:13and to Us belong the world and the Hereafter.

فَأَنذَرْتُكُمْ نَارًۭا تَلَظَّىٰ﴿١٤﴾

92:14So I warn you of a blazing fire,¹¹

لَا يَصْلَىٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلْأَشْقَى﴿١٥﴾

92:15which none shall enter except the most wretched [of persons]¹²

ٱلَّذِى كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ﴿١٦﴾

92:16—he who impugns [God’s prophets] and turns his back.

وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَتْقَى﴿١٧﴾

92:17The Godwary [person] will be spared of that

ٱلَّذِى يُؤْتِى مَالَهُۥ يَتَزَكَّىٰ﴿١٨﴾

92:18—he who gives his wealth to purify himself¹³
