Makkan36 verses

83:11who deny the Day of Retribution;

83:12and none denies it except every sinful transgressor.

83:13When Our signs are recited to him, he says, ‘Myths of the ancients!’

83:14No, that is not the case! Rather, their hearts have been sullied by what they have been earning.1

83:15Indeed, they will be alienated from their Lord on that day.

83:16Afterward they will enter hell,

83:17then told, ‘This is what you used to deny!’

83:18Indeed, the record of the pious is in Illeeyun.

83:19And what will show you what is Illeeyun?

83:20It is a written record,

83:21witnessed by those brought near [to Allah].

83:22The pious shall be amid bliss,

83:23observing, [as they recline] on couches.2

83:24You will perceive in their faces the freshness of bliss.

83:25They will be served with a sealed pure wine,34

83:26whose seal is musk—for such let the viers vie—5

83:27and whose seasoning is from Tasneem,6

83:28a spring where those brought near [to Allah] drink.

83:29Indeed the guilty used to laugh at the faithful,

83:30and when they passed them by they would wink at each other,7

83:31and when they returned to their folks they would return amused,8

83:32and when they saw them they would say, ‘Indeed those are the astray!’

83:33Though they were not sent to watch over them.9

Commentary on this passage

Verse 29

1.In the commentary of Razi it is mentioned that once Ali (a.s.) happened to pass near a group of hypocrites and they ridiculed him. After that when they returned to their colleagues they began to say that just now one such person passed by us on whose head there was no hair. Allah revealed these Verses before Ali (a.s.) reached the Prophet, that these hypocrites do not have the sense that the hereafter is remaining. These tricks of theirs will not be of any use over there and on that day believers will be given this opportunity, that they laugh at the fate of the hypocrites and draw their attention that look what is the result of your evil actions and deeds.
