81. At-Takwir · The Overthrowing

Makkan29 verses

81:8when the girl buried-alive will be asked1

81:9for what sin she was killed.

81:10When the records [of deeds] are unfolded,2

81:11when the sky is stripped off,3

81:12when hell is set ablaze,4

81:13when paradise is brought near,

81:14then a soul shall know what it has readied [for itself].

81:15So I swear by the stars that return,5

81:16the comets,67

81:17by the night as it approaches,8

81:18by the dawn as it breathes:9

81:19it is indeed the speech of a noble apostle,

81:20powerful and eminent with the Lord of the Throne,10

81:21one who is obeyed and is trustworthy as well.

81:22Your companion is not crazy:

81:23certainly he saw him on the manifest horizon,

81:24and he is not miserly concerning the Unseen.11

81:25And it is not the speech of an outcast Satan.

81:26So where are you going?

81:27It is just a reminder for all the nations,

81:28for those of you who wish to walk straight;

81:29but you will not wish unless it is wished by Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.

Commentary on this passage

Verse 15

1.In the second part in those verses three types of oaths are there : stars, night, day and after that is the statement that Quran was revealed by Jibreel the trustworthy (a.s.). And he is a very much respectable angel and My Prophet is also not insane. Now what is the connection of this oath with the topic. This is an issue which requires deep thinking (great attention) and probably it points towards the fact that as the system of day, night and stars is perfect and subtle, in the same way the revelation of Jibreel and the mind of the Prophet, both are working in perfect and systematic manner. In this regard there is no place for any doubt or suspicions. In the same manner Quran is also absolutely correct and definite and its status is that there is no doubt or suspicion about it.
