76:16—crystal of silver— [from] which they will dispense in a precise measure.3

76:17They will be served therein with a cup of a drink seasoned with Zanjabeel,4

76:18from a spring in it named Salsabeel.5

76:19They will be waited upon by immortal youths, whom, were you to see them, you will suppose them to be scattered pearls.

76:20As you look on, you will see there bliss and a great kingdom.6

76:21Upon them will be cloaks of green silk and brocade and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them to drink a pure drink.78

76:22[They will be told]: ‘This is your reward, and your efforts have been well-appreciated.’

76:23Indeed We have sent down to you the Quran in a gradual descent.

76:24So submit patiently to the judgement of your Lord and do not obey any sinner or ingrate from among them,9

76:25and celebrate the Name of your Lord morning and evening,

76:26and worship Him for a watch of the night and glorify Him the night long.

76:27Indeed they love this transitory life, and disregard a heavy day that is ahead of them.

76:28We created them and strengthened their joints, and We will replace them with others like them whenever We like.10

76:29This is indeed a reminder. So let anyone who wishes take the way toward his Lord.

76:30But you will not wish unless it is willed by Allah. Indeed Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.

Commentary on this passage

Verse 30

1.Though man is supposed to be free and have power of discretion, but some of Allah’s servants are such that they have their intention and power surrendered completely to the wish of Allah (They have made themselves obedient to that extent). And they don’t even think of going against His wishes and this is only the excellence of their character and secret of their greatness. On this occasion adherence to excellence of Allah’s will by Ahle Bayt (a.s.) is established. And in fact this only is the excellence of character of a servant, that he hands over himself to his Lord. Here it is never intended that will of Allah is subordinate to their wish. Allah cannot be subordinate to His servant. Otherwise divinity will be over. It is different that to keep the honour of His servant, He performs the act according to his wish, but actually that servant’s wish is orginally the wish of the Lord only.
