Verses 19–28

وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ بِسَاطًۭا﴿١٩﴾

71:19Allah has made the earth a vast expanse for you¹

لِّتَسْلُكُوا۟ مِنْهَا سُبُلًۭا فِجَاجًۭا﴿٢٠﴾

71:20so that you may travel over its spacious ways.’’ ’²

قَالَ نُوحٌۭ رَّبِّ إِنَّهُمْ عَصَوْنِى وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ مَن لَّمْ يَزِدْهُ مَالُهُۥ وَوَلَدُهُۥٓ إِلَّا خَسَارًۭا﴿٢١﴾

71:21Noah said, ‘My Lord! They have disobeyed me, following someone whose wealth and children only add to his loss,³

وَمَكَرُوا۟ مَكْرًۭا كُبَّارًۭا﴿٢٢﴾

71:22and they have devised an outrageous plot.

وَقَالُوا۟ لَا تَذَرُنَّ ءَالِهَتَكُمْ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدًّۭا وَلَا سُوَاعًۭا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسْرًۭا﴿٢٣﴾

71:23They say, ‘‘Do not abandon your gods. Do not abandon Wadd, nor Suwa, nor Yaghuth, Ya‘uq and Nasr,’’⁴⁵⁶⁷⁸

وَقَدْ أَضَلُّوا۟ كَثِيرًۭا ۖ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا ضَلَٰلًۭا﴿٢٤﴾

71:24and already they have led many astray. Do not increase the wrongdoers in anything but error.’

مِّمَّا خَطِيٓـَٰٔتِهِمْ أُغْرِقُوا۟ فَأُدْخِلُوا۟ نَارًۭا فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا۟ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَنصَارًۭا﴿٢٥﴾

71:25They were drowned because of their iniquities, then made to enter a Fire, and they did not find any helpers for themselves besides Allah.⁹

وَقَالَ نُوحٌۭ رَّبِّ لَا تَذَرْ عَلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ مِنَ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ دَيَّارًا﴿٢٦﴾

71:26And Noah said, ‘My Lord! ‘Do not leave on the earth any inhabitant from among the faithless.

إِنَّكَ إِن تَذَرْهُمْ يُضِلُّوا۟ عِبَادَكَ وَلَا يَلِدُوٓا۟ إِلَّا فَاجِرًۭا كَفَّارًۭا﴿٢٧﴾

71:27If You leave them, they will lead astray Your servants, and will beget none except vicious ingrates.

رَّبِّ ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيْتِىَ مُؤْمِنًۭا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارًۢا﴿٢٨﴾

71:28My Lord! Forgive me and my parents, and whoever enters my house in faith, and the faithful men and women, and do not increase the wrongdoers in anything but ruin.’¹⁰
