7. Al-A'raaf · The Heights
Makkan206 verses
7:31O Children of Adam! Put on your adornment on every occasion of prayer, and eat and drink, but do not waste; indeed, He does not like the wasteful.1
7:32Say, ‘Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has brought forth for His servants, and the good things of [His] provision?’ Say, ‘These are for the faithful in the life of this world, and exclusively for them on the Day of Resurrection.’ Thus do We elaborate the signs for a people who have knowledge.2
7:33Say, ‘My Lord has only forbidden indecencies, the outward among them and the inward ones, and sin and undue aggression, and that you should ascribe to Allah partners for which He has not sent down any authority, and that you should attribute to Allah what you do not know.’3
7:34There is a [preordained] time for every nation: when their time comes, they shall not defer it by a single hour nor shall they advance it.
7:35O Children of Adam! If there come to you apostles from among yourselves, recounting to you My signs, then those who are Godwary and righteous will have no fear, nor will they grieve.
7:36But those who deny Our signs and are disdainful of them, they shall be the inmates of the Fire and they shall remain in it [forever].
7:37So who is a greater wrongdoer than him who fabricates a lie against Allah, or denies His signs? Their share, as decreed in the Book, shall reach them. When Our messengers come to take them away, they will say, ‘Where is that which you used to invoke besides Allah?’ They will say, ‘They have forsaken us,’ and they will testify against themselves that they were faithless.4

Commentary on this passage
Verse 31
1.In the period of ignorance, Arabs believed that clothes in which sins are committed cannot be used for circumbulation of Holy Ka‘ba and clothes in which circumbulation is performed cannot be used for any other purpose and due to this they performed circumbulation without clothes. Islam had forbidden this act strictly and ordered them to pray in adorned clothes and admonished those who considered it unlawful so that no one could get a chance to make it lawful or unlawful of his own accord. It clarified that adorning is also a part of people of faith hut there should be no extravagance as Allah does not like extravagance.
Verse 37
2.It is clearly understood from the verse that slanderers did not even spare Allah and they invented new techniques to blame Allah and also contradicted His own verses. It was Allah’s favour that He did not close His sustenance and did not reduce their lives. On the contrary, Allah gave them whatever was decided and original account was kept aside for the day of resurrection. At that time there will be no fear nor harm for the pious and there will be no helpers for polytheists, hypocrites and infidels and their result will be very severe.

Benefit
Some commentators have understood the Ummat in the phrase ‘Lekulle Ummatin Ajal” to mean religion and thus concluded that Islam, will also come to an end and the need will arise of the new religion. The word Ummat is used 64 times in the Quran and each time it denotes a group. Nowhere is it construed to be a religion.
In the same way some people consider those addressed in Ama Yateekum to be Muslims and concluded that Prophets will come after this too, while the continuity of the ayat indicates that those who have been addressed are the people from the period of Adam (a.s.) to that of the Last Prophet (s.a.). They continuously received messengers. It is not with regard to the Muslim nation in particular.
