7:130Certainly We afflicted Pharaoh’s clan with droughts and loss of produce, so that they may take admonition.

Tafsir

Commentary on this passage

It was the style of Firon and this was the manner of the speech of a Prophet of Allah. The Prophet of Allah always draws attention of people towards Allah. Moosa (a.s.) had a great divine power in his hands and it was sufficient to demolish the power of each and every Firon, but he did not promise to send his reinforcements but gave a reference of seeking help from Allah and then invited them for endurance and said Allah also does not co-operate with anyone without patience. Patience maintains its status for miserable conditions and problems cannot be solved without patience.

Explanations of words and phrases in these verses

  1. Benefit

Here a question arises as to why Firon did not speak of the murder of Moosa (a.s.) instead of the killings of Bani Israel? Its reply is that firstly he was terrified after listening to the speech of Momin-eAale Firon (Believer of the People of Firon), that if Moosa (a.s.) is a true prophet the divine punishment shall indeed fall on them. Secondly after the conversion of magicians the status of Moosa (a.s.) was so much elevated that killing him was not as easy as killing the Bani Israel.

  2. 1

This clarification was needed so that Firon may not think that Lord of the worlds refers to him because he himself had also claimed divinity.

  3. 2

This is the style of falsehood that the people of truth showed, seek the permission of falsehood before accepting truth ! What can be worse example of Istebsaal?

  4. 3

This indicated that in addition to himself, Firon had made a number of deities and in this way he used to refer to himself as the ‘high Lord’.

  5. 4

Sparing of the daughters was aimed at enslaving them to serve and to use them physically.
