Madinan18 verses

64:1Whatever there is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Allah. To Him belongs all sovereignty and to Him belongs all praise, and He has power over all things.1

64:2It is He who created you. Then some of you are faithless and some of you are faithful, and Allah watches what you do.

64:3He created the heavens and the earth with consummate wisdom, and He formed you and perfected your forms, and toward Him is your destination.2

64:4He knows whatever there is in the heavens and the earth, and He knows whatever you hide and whatever you disclose, and Allah knows best what is in your breasts.

64:5Has there not come to you the account of those who were faithless before? They tasted the evil consequence of their conduct, and there is a painful punishment for them.

64:6That was because their apostles would bring them manifest proofs, but they said, ‘Will humans be our guides?!’ So they disbelieved and turned away, and Allah had no need [of their faith] and Allah is all-sufficient, all-laudable.

64:7The faithless claim that they will not be resurrected. Say, ‘Yes, by my Lord, you will surely be resurrected; then you will surely be informed of what you did, and that is easy for Allah.’3

64:8So have faith in Allah and His Apostle and the light, which We have sent down, and Allah is well aware of what you do.

Commentary on this passage

Verse 4

1.In these verses, the Lord of the universe has given three types of references to His being Omniscient. (About the vastness of His Knowledge). (i) He is well aware of everything in the heavens and the earth. This is His encompassing knowledge. (ii) He is aware of all your deeds; whether you perfonn them openly or secretly. This is His moral knowledge. (iii) He is aware of the secrets hidden deep in your hearts. This is His knowledge of manner. If man accepts and develops this belief of His being Omniscient, then he cannot be convinced about mismanagement in the universe and he cannot be free in his acts. Nor can he make his wrong desires and thoughts free. And in this way he can purify his life.

Verse 6

2.How foolish are those disbelievers that they cannot perceive a human being as a spiritual guide, but they accept trees and stones as their mentors! And they become convinced to the extent that they believe them to be having heavenly powers (they consider them their gods).

Tasbeeh is the expression of glorification and exaltation in which every particle of the Universe is a partner. Some do Tasbeeh in a mute language and some do it verbally. This reference to the reciting of glorification is a criticism for the people who are divided into two sections. One of whom have become disbelievers while the lifeless particles are busy in Allah’s glorification.
