Madinan13 verses

60:5Our Lord! Do not make us a test for the faithless, and forgive us. Our Lord! Indeed You are the All-mighty, the All-wise.’1

60:6There is certainly a good exemplar for you in them—for those who look forward to Allah and the Last Day—and anyone who refuses to comply [should know that] indeed Allah is the All-sufficient, the All-laudable.2

60:7It may be that Allah will bring about affection between you and those with whom you are at enmity, and Allah is all-powerful, and Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.3

60:8Allah does not forbid you from dealing with kindness and justice with those [polytheists] who did not make war against you on account of religion and did not expel you from your homes. Indeed Allah loves the just.4

60:9Allah forbids you only in regard to those who made war against you on account of religion and expelled you from your homes and supported [the polytheists of Makkah] in your expulsion, that you make friends with them, and whoever makes friends with them—it is they who are the wrongdoers.

60:10O you who have faith! When faithful women come to you as immigrants, test them. Allah knows best [the state of] their faith. Then, if you ascertain them to be [genuinely] faithful women, do not send them back to the faithless. They are not lawful for them, nor are they lawful for them, but give them what [dowry] they have spent [for them]. There is no sin upon you in marrying them when you have given them their dowries. Do not hold on to [conjugal] ties with faithless women. Demand [from the infidels] what you have spent [as dowries], and let the faithless demand [from you] what they have spent [as dowries]. That is Allah’s judgment; He judges between you, and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.5

Commentary on this passage

Verse 9

1.This is a complete code of war and peace in Islam. that no war should be waged with those nations who do not commit oppression and tyranny and no peace is to be offered to those nations who are ready for oppression and tyranny. But woe to Muslims, that they have completely reversed this Ayat. Peace is offered to America which has ruined and destroyed the Muslims and has established Israel in the heart of the Islamic world and always used its veto power in its favour. And preparation of war is going on against the nation which gives all types of sacrifices for the interest of Islam. May Allah improve this situation and give a sound mind and a healthy belief to the Muslims.

Verse 10

2.In the peace treaty of Hudaibiya it was agreed that if a man of infidels comes to the Muslims he will be sent back. However after the treaty a woman became a Muslim and the husband demanded her return, but Allah declared that this is not connected to wife and husband. A Muslim woman cannot stay under the domination of an infidel man. In such cases the following laws will be implemented: (i) A Muslim woman will not be given under the possession of an infidel husband. (ii) The dower paid by the infidel will be returned to him. (iii) A Muslim can marry the new Muslim woman after the return of dower and after the period of iddah is over. (iv) A Muslim cannot take an infidel woman as his wife. (v) If the wife becomes infidel, the Muslim husband can take back the Mehr (dower) he has paid her. (vi) If the wife becomes infidel and goes away and does not return the Mehr, then when the property of infidels comes into the hands of Muslims as booty, the Muslim husband should be given the amount equal to the Mehr given by him. So that he gets his right and does not have to bear any loss.
