43:12He created all the kinds and made for you the ships and the cattle such which you ride,
43:13that you may sit on their backs, then remember the blessing of your Lord when you are settled on them, and say, ‘Immaculate is He who has disposed this for us, and we [by ourselves] were no match for it.1
43:14Indeed we shall return to our Lord.’
43:15They ascribe to Him offspring from among His servants! Man is indeed a manifest ingrate.
43:16Did He adopt daughters from what He creates while He preferred you with sons?
43:17When one of them is brought the news of what he ascribes to the All-beneficent, his face becomes darkened and he chokes with suppressed rage, [and says]
43:18‘What! One who is brought up amid ornaments and is inconspicuous in contests?’
43:19They have made the angels—who are servants of the All-beneficent—females. Were they witness to their creation? Their testimony will be written down and they shall be questioned.
43:20They say, ‘Had the All-beneficent wished, we would not have worshipped them.’ They do not have any knowledge of that, and they do nothing but surmise.*
43:21Did We give them a Book before this, so that they are holding fast to it?
43:22No, they said, ‘We found our fathers following a creed, and we are indeed guided in their footsteps.’
43:23So it has been that We did not send any warner to a town before you, without its affluent ones saying, ‘We found our fathers following a creed and we are indeed following in their footsteps.’

Commentary on this passage
Verse 15
1.From the foolish traits of man is that he does not feel the difference of prayers and relationship and he does not guess that the temperament of prayers is different and temperament of relationship is different. Infidels and polytheists were involved in ignorance and took angels to be daughters of Allah. The same ignorance is seen in Christians that a man who speaks ‘Inni Abdullah’ (Servant of Allah) is called by them ‘Ibne Abdullah’ (son of Allah). The greatest cunning of polytheists was that they made angels as female divinities and decided that a male child is the sign of blessing of Allah, so this should come in our shares and female child is misfortunate and trouble, so this goes to the share of Allah. These wicked people did not think that if Allah is same why He would create the better creation for them? If He wants to create a child for Himself, He would create the best. Why would He settle this creation, His own child, who is brought up between wealth and cannot present his argument correctly in emotion. The polytheists will be questioned about the belief of Allah’s son and Angels. They have to explain both. Because the Qiyamat is not a field where you can play tricks and argue about all kinds of beliefs.

Explanations of words and phrases in these verses
- 1
The boat and animal are mentioned as examples. Otherwise the Mercy of Allah is present in all the vehicles. If that Mercy had not been there, there would have been no use of planes, rockets, ships and yatchs. If He had frozen the water the boats would have been useless and if He had not blown the winds favorably the aeroplane had become useless. Man should confess at the time of boarding a vehicle that all this is the result of divine mercy and there was nothing in his own capability. The addition ‘Wa inna ila Rabbana La munqaleboon’ indicates that man should never be oblivious of death. It can come on a vehicle, on a ship, on plane and on rocket. He must always be prepared to meet Allah. It is the demand of the consciousness of man and it behoves his position. Vehicle is the best reminder that the God can transfer us from one place to another through death. That is why the infallible Imams have emphasized that during the journey and on reaching the destination you must remember Allah and thank Him.
Benefit
There are many ayats like the 20th ayat in which the infidels and polytheists have held the Almighty responsible for their useless beliefs and views. It is a pity that despite of these ayats being there this same belief came in the Muslims who believed in predestination. Then we belong to Allah and to Him we return.
