بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
صٓ ۚ وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ذِى ٱلذِّكْرِ
بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى عِزَّةٍۢ وَشِقَاقٍۢ
38:2the faithless indeed dwell in conceit and defiance.
كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن قَرْنٍۢ فَنَادَوا۟ وَّلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصٍۢ
38:3How many a generation We have destroyed before them! They cried out [for help], but gone was the time for escape.

Commentary on this passage
Verse 2
2.Pride is the root of human destruction. When one feels I am something and no one is superior to me then he refuses to believe others without any reason and disregards dignity of one’s opponent. It is ignorance and foolishness of infidelity. On one side he is not ready to accept the message of Quran and the commands of Prophet (s.a.) due to his prestige and on the other hand he becomes such a worthless person, that he believes in old women’s tales and does not want to exceed limits. This is the state of progressive Muslims today and they are proud before the truth of religion and remain like devoted servants on the social level and give it the honor of the principle of life, whereas there is no intellectual or logical basis of it.

Oath is not taken of Quran to prove its veracity and it is called the advice-giving one because all its teachings are based on the well-being of humanity. It is the bad luck of man that he had fallen a prey to pride and enmity and he does not have faith in such a great Quran.
