3:181Allah has certainly heard the remark of those who said, ‘Allah is poor and we are rich.’ We will record what they have said, and their killing of the prophets unjustly, and We shall say, ‘Taste the punishment of the burning.1
3:182That is because of what your hands have sent ahead, and because Allah is not tyrannical to His servants.’
3:183Tell those who say, ‘Allah has pledged us not to believe in any apostle unless he brings us an offering consumed by fire,’ ‘Apostles before me certainly did bring you manifest signs and what you speak of. Then why did you kill them, if you are truthful?’2
3:184But if they deny you, [other] apostles have been denied before you, who came with manifest signs, holy writs, and an illuminating scripture.
3:185Every soul shall taste death, and you will indeed be paid your full rewards on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever is delivered from the Fire and admitted to paradise has certainly succeeded. The life of this world is nothing but the wares of delusion.3
3:186You will surely be tested in your possessions and your souls, and you will surely hear much affront from those who were given the Book before you and from the polytheists; but if you are patient and Godwary, that is indeed the steadiest of courses.4

Commentary on this passage
One of the shameless behaviours of Jews was that they jested Islam by saying that demand of Allah is not a trial but it is a sign of poverty. Then Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) himself trumped up the demand of miracle and said it is credential proof of Allah. Allah clarified their dishonest acts and said their fathers and forefathers were also the same and did not care of miracles or the revealed book, otherwise they would not be guilty of slaying the prophets.
Verse 184
1.This is a very difficult stage, all preachers of Islam had to pass by this way. Preaching Islam is not an easy task rather it is very difficult. The Prophets and Apostles had been suffered a lot. Besides infidels had no any other ploy except restriction and mischief making.
Verse 185
2.The true believers of Allah are satisfied that the days of the world are temporary and everyone has to face death. There is no advantage of comforts and relaxation in the world. These are false hopes and desires. The only real and original place of comforts and ease is Paradise. Allah says: Be careful, do not care of their sarcasm. Do your work. They will harm you by their acerbic remarks. But your work is to have patience and fear god and this is a good sign of your wisdom and moral.
