29. Al-Ankaboot · The Spider

Makkan69 verses

وَمَآ أَنتُم بِمُعْجِزِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ ۖ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَلِىٍّۢ وَلَا نَصِيرٍۢ

29:22You cannot frustrate Him on the earth or in the sky, nor do you have besides Allah any guardian or helper.1

وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِقَآئِهِۦٓ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ يَئِسُوا۟ مِن رَّحْمَتِى وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌۭ

29:23Those who deny the signs of Allah and the encounter with Him—they have despaired of My mercy, and for such there is a painful punishment.

فَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِهِۦٓ إِلَّآ أَن قَالُوا۟ ٱقْتُلُوهُ أَوْ حَرِّقُوهُ فَأَنجَىٰهُ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلنَّارِ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍۢ لِّقَوْمٍۢ يُؤْمِنُونَ

29:24But the only answer of his people was that they said, ‘Kill him, or burn him.’ Then Allah delivered him from the fire. There are indeed signs in that for a people who have faith.2

وَقَالَ إِنَّمَا ٱتَّخَذْتُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْثَٰنًۭا مَّوَدَّةَ بَيْنِكُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ ثُمَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ يَكْفُرُ بَعْضُكُم بِبَعْضٍۢ وَيَلْعَنُ بَعْضُكُم بَعْضًۭا وَمَأْوَىٰكُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن نَّٰصِرِينَ

29:25He said, ‘You have taken idols [for worship] besides Allah for the sake of [mutual] affection amongst yourselves in the life of the world. Then on the Day of Resurrection you will disown one another and curse one another, and the Fire will be your abode, and you will not have any helpers.’

۞ فَـَٔامَنَ لَهُۥ لُوطٌۭ ۘ وَقَالَ إِنِّى مُهَاجِرٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّىٓ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ

29:26Thereupon Lot believed in him, and he said, ‘Indeed I am migrating toward my Lord. Indeed He is the All-mighty, the All-wise.’3

وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُۥٓ إِسْحَٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَجَعَلْنَا فِى ذُرِّيَّتِهِ ٱلنُّبُوَّةَ وَٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُ أَجْرَهُۥ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَإِنَّهُۥ فِى ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ لَمِنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ

29:27And We gave him Isaac and Jacob, and We ordained among his descendants prophethood and the Book, and We gave him his reward in this world, and in the Hereafter he will indeed be among the Righteous.*

وَلُوطًا إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ إِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ ٱلْفَٰحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنْ أَحَدٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

29:28And Lot, when he said to his people, ‘You indeed commit an indecency none in the world has ever committed before you!

Tafsir

Commentary on this passage

Verse 25

1.The whole humanity involved in this disease is that hundreds of people have adopted the wrong belief to keep their relationship with hypocrites and thousands of people are going astray to maintain their relationship with sinful people. When the verse of the Holy Quran clarified that all these relations are limited till the worldly life and then they all will be the enemies of each other in the Hereafter and curse each other and this will be the most detestable end to the life of this world. May Allah protects every believers from this end.

Explanations of words and phrases in these verses

    How optimist man is? Can he ever imagine to be in place where the hands of Allah could not reach? Benefit: The mention of the heavens before the polytheists is to emphasize the greatness of Allah. Otherwise no one from the polytheists was in the heavens. The signs also refer to both decreed and commanded ones.

  2. Benefit

    Please note that the success of Nuh (a.s.) is Ayat and the success of Ibrahim (a.s.) is Ayaat. That the transformation of the fire into blossoms. The escape of Ibrahim (a.s.). The burning of the rope that had tied him. The oppressors becoming fearful and the calmness of Ibrahim (a.s,). All of these are different signs.

    What else could the unjust people do? They have no reason and logic. They want to persuade by force. But the Alntighty Allah breaks the arrogance of these oppressors by helping His servants.

    The life of Ibrahim (a.s.) is an example for the religious missionaries. That in spite of making every effort he could not make anyone believe except his nephew Lut (a.s.) According to the commentators when Ibrahim (a.s.) left his country he was only accompanied by his wife and Lut (a.s,).

  5. Benefit

    The 27th ayat indicates that in spite of the oppressors the Almighty bestowed Ibrahim (a.s.) with sons. He also gave him salvation, wealth and he was also included among the righteous in the Hereafter which is the highest honour. So much so that in spite of having everything Yusuf and Sulaiman (a.s.) had prayed to Allah to include them among the Saleheen (righteous).
