Verses 13–38

وَأَنَا ٱخْتَرْتُكَ فَٱسْتَمِعْ لِمَا يُوحَىٰٓ﴿١٣﴾

20:13I have chosen you; so listen to what is revealed.

إِنَّنِىٓ أَنَا ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنَا۠ فَٱعْبُدْنِى وَأَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ لِذِكْرِىٓ﴿١٤﴾

20:14Indeed I am Allah—there is no god except Me. So worship Me, and maintain the prayer for My remembrance.

إِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ ءَاتِيَةٌ أَكَادُ أُخْفِيهَا لِتُجْزَىٰ كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا تَسْعَىٰ﴿١٥﴾

20:15Indeed the Hour is bound to come: I will have it hidden, so that every soul may be rewarded for its endeavour.

فَلَا يَصُدَّنَّكَ عَنْهَا مَن لَّا يُؤْمِنُ بِهَا وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَىٰهُ فَتَرْدَىٰ﴿١٦﴾

20:16So do not let yourself be distracted from it by those who do not believe in it and who follow their desires, or you will perish.’¹

وَمَا تِلْكَ بِيَمِينِكَ يَٰمُوسَىٰ﴿١٧﴾

20:17‘Moses, what is that in your right hand?’

قَالَ هِىَ عَصَاىَ أَتَوَكَّؤُا۟ عَلَيْهَا وَأَهُشُّ بِهَا عَلَىٰ غَنَمِى وَلِىَ فِيهَا مَـَٔارِبُ أُخْرَىٰ﴿١٨﴾

20:18He said, ‘It is my staff. I lean on it, and with it I beat down leaves for my sheep; and I have other uses for it.’²

قَالَ أَلْقِهَا يَٰمُوسَىٰ﴿١٩﴾

20:19He said, ‘Moses, throw it down.’

فَأَلْقَىٰهَا فَإِذَا هِىَ حَيَّةٌۭ تَسْعَىٰ﴿٢٠﴾

20:20So he threw it down, and behold, it was a snake, moving swiftly.

قَالَ خُذْهَا وَلَا تَخَفْ ۖ سَنُعِيدُهَا سِيرَتَهَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ﴿٢١﴾

20:21He said, ‘Take hold of it, and do not fear. We will restore it to its former state.³

وَٱضْمُمْ يَدَكَ إِلَىٰ جَنَاحِكَ تَخْرُجْ بَيْضَآءَ مِنْ غَيْرِ سُوٓءٍ ءَايَةً أُخْرَىٰ﴿٢٢﴾

20:22Now clasp your hand to your armpit: it will emerge white, without any harm—[this is yet] another sign,

لِنُرِيَكَ مِنْ ءَايَٰتِنَا ٱلْكُبْرَى﴿٢٣﴾

20:23that We may show you some of Our great signs.

ٱذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ﴿٢٤﴾

20:24Go to Pharaoh. He has indeed rebelled.’

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱشْرَحْ لِى صَدْرِى﴿٢٥﴾

20:25He said, ‘My Lord! Open my breast for me.

وَيَسِّرْ لِىٓ أَمْرِى﴿٢٦﴾

20:26Make my task easy for me.

وَٱحْلُلْ عُقْدَةًۭ مِّن لِّسَانِى﴿٢٧﴾

20:27Remove the hitch from my tongue,

يَفْقَهُوا۟ قَوْلِى﴿٢٨﴾

20:28[so that] they may understand my speech.

وَٱجْعَل لِّى وَزِيرًۭا مِّنْ أَهْلِى﴿٢٩﴾

20:29Appoint for me a minister from my family,

هَٰرُونَ أَخِى﴿٣٠﴾

20:30Aaron, my brother.⁴

ٱشْدُدْ بِهِۦٓ أَزْرِى﴿٣١﴾

20:31Strengthen my back through him,

وَأَشْرِكْهُ فِىٓ أَمْرِى﴿٣٢﴾

20:32and make him my associate in my task,

كَىْ نُسَبِّحَكَ كَثِيرًۭا﴿٣٣﴾

20:33so that we may glorify You greatly,

وَنَذْكُرَكَ كَثِيرًا﴿٣٤﴾

20:34and remember You greatly.

إِنَّكَ كُنتَ بِنَا بَصِيرًۭا﴿٣٥﴾

20:35Indeed You see us best.’

قَالَ قَدْ أُوتِيتَ سُؤْلَكَ يَٰمُوسَىٰ﴿٣٦﴾

20:36He said, ‘Moses, your request has been granted!

وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَيْكَ مَرَّةً أُخْرَىٰٓ﴿٣٧﴾

20:37Certainly, We have done you a favour another time,

إِذْ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّكَ مَا يُوحَىٰٓ﴿٣٨﴾

20:38when We revealed to your mother whatever was to be revealed:⁵
