2:62Indeed the faithful, the Jews, the Christians and the Sabaeans—those of them who have faith in Allah and the Last Day and act righteously—they shall have their reward from their Lord, and they will have no fear, nor will they grieve.1
2:63And when We took a pledge from you, and raised the Mount above you, [declaring], ‘Hold on with power to what We have given you and remember that which is in it so that you may be Godwary.’*
2:64Again you turned away after that; and were it not for Allah’s grace on you and His mercy, you would have surely been among the losers.
2:65And certainly you know those of you who violated the Sabbath, whereupon We said to them, ‘Be you spurned apes.’2
2:66So We made it an exemplary punishment for the present and the succeeding [generations], and an advice to the Godwary.
2:67And when Moses said to his people, ‘Allah commands you to slaughter a cow,’ they said, ‘Are you mocking us?’ He said, ‘I seek Allah’s protection lest I should be one of the ignorant!’
2:68They said, ‘Invoke your Lord for us that He may clarify for us what she may be.’ He said, ‘He says, she is a cow, neither old nor young, of a middle age. Now do what you are commanded.’
2:69They said, ‘Invoke your Lord for us that He may clarify for us what her colour may be.’ He said, ‘He says, she is a cow that is yellow, of a bright hue, pleasing to the onlookers.’

Commentary on this passage
Verse 62
1.This Ayat also clarifies that mere claims offaith are not sufficient unless there is true faith and good deeds. Also that to belong to a different religion previously is not the obstacle in the way of faith or doing good deeds. Man himself adopts infidelity or true faith of his own choice. One is not born either infidel or Muslim. To be born on the nature of Islam is different and being a Muslim is different. The mention of only belief in Allah and the hereafter in the subject of faith is there because belief in the Prophet is actually a necessary condition of belief in Allah. J list as belief in Imam is a necessary part of faith in Prophethood. It is impossible to have faith in the Prophet without belief in Allah.
Verse 64
2.Allah lifted the Mt.Toor over Bani Israel to take oath from them to follow the Taurat. So they took a vow but did not fulfill it. Often people say that Islam can spread by the force of sword. The Holy Quran has made it clear that those who do not want to believe, never believe, even if a divine chastisement is hung upon them.
Verse 65
3.Apparently the opposition was minor that fishing was prohibited on Saturday but they used to dig ditches on Friday so that if fish come this way they can be caught. But Allah made them apes. That if the people knew how to twist and turn things to their advantage Allah also had the power to change their forms. Allah is not in need of any man, all are in need of Him. The right to be human only belongs to those who are obedient to Allah. All the rest are apes. If not apparently they are so internally. Only the pious people are able to gain from good advice.
Verse 67
4.In the Bani Israel the people had killed a rich man so that his property could be divided among them and someone else is blamed for the murder. Allah commanded them to slaughter a cow and touch it to the dead body and it will come to life and tell them the name of the killer. In order to continue the false allegation they made excuses and undue delay but at last they were compelled to do it. Those who make false allegations are always afraid to face the facts and their end is nothing except degradation and exposure. This incident also clarifies that the God Who has the power to bring dead to life by touching the flesh ofa cow can make a dead man alive by the kick ofa human being. And He can also bestow new hair and wings to the one who touches his body to a cradle. Nothing is impossible for Allah, The only thing required is the need of divine will.
