Commentary on this passage
Verse 127
1.The lesson is that man should not be proud even for the best of his deeds. Rather he should beg Allah to accept them. Performing the deed is not the main thing, it is the acceptance of his deeds by Allah.
Verse 128
2.The Chosen Servants of Allah are worried after doing the good deed that whether it was performed as desired by Allah or not. They continue to apologize for this shortcoming. Otherwise rebuilding the Ka’ba was not a sin that he should repent for it. From this we can understand the philosophy of repentance of Masoomeen (a.s.).
Verse 129
3.Ibrahim (a.s.) was always worried about faith and Islam of his descendants and with regard to a spiritual guide among them. Every believer should worry about the faith of his children in the same way; and not just worry about it, he should make a bequest about it which is the greatest teaching of Islam.
Verse 130
4.Irreligious persons think that they are doing something sensible and that is why they use logic against religion. And Quran explains that after leaving religion, you do not obtain intelligence and understanding you only get foolishness and stupidity.
Verse 131
5.The Islam of Ibrahim (a.s.) in not mere recitation of Kalimah but it is the Islam of respect and commitment. He had the same worry for his offspring. That is why he had prayed for a Muslim community. Otherwise everyone wants to see their children to be Muslims.
Verse 133
6.This indicates that till the end of our lives we should check our children as to what their religious beliefs are and what is their future. If only the people of Quran had paid attention to these points and these teachings and made them as the model code of ethics.
7.For the sons of Yaqoob (a.s.) Ismail is not the father, he is an uncle. But he is counted among the forefathers. Just as Azar was called the father of Ibrahim (a.s.) though he was his uncle. The father of a Prophet cannot be an idolater. The name of Ibrahim’s (a.s.) father was Tarukh.
Footnotes
Explanations of words and phrases in these verses
- 1
This is an indication that the actual Ka’ba is older than the one constructed by Ibrahim (a.s.). As mentioned in the traditions that the Black Stone and the Maqame Ibrahim (a.s.) belong to Paradise. “Min Maqame Ibrahim” shows that the prayer would not be on the spot, it would be near to it.
- 2
Ja’ala ilahi is the proof that the system of Khaleel is not an apparent Islam. Otherwise man himself would have adopted it. Apart from this to accept Islam is something else and to be Muslims is another. The actions are voluntary but attributes are not so. It requires the permission of Allah, rather Ja’ala ilahi
- 3
Manasik are the worship acts and Araeta is the expression of the reality of actions, it is not teaching the rituals.
Benefit
In the 129th ayat, the rule is confirmed that education is superior to training. as purification of the self is not possible without education. However in Surah Baqarah, Aale Imran and Juma’ the purification of the self is preferred over education and probably it is due to its importance and origin that the perfection of man achieved through intellectual education and the perfection of the self is achieved through purification and training.
- 4
Islam has four grades I) Verbal acceptance (2) Internal faith (3) Practical inclination (4) Feeling of surrender and entrusting.
Benefit
The 133rd ayat is the proof that the uncle is related to the father, otherwise Ismail (a.s.) was the uncle of Yaqoob (a.s.). He was not included among his forefathers.
