Commentary on this passage

Verse 27

1.Those who believe with the sure words are true believers. Those who recite the creed of Islam verbally cannot be called true believers. In the present age, those who support fully the false words and want to destroy humanity by atomic energy, people stretch their arms towards them for friendship. They cannot be called true believers. Their end will be worst than infidels as infidels announce their infidelity openly and do not verify Islam and faith.

Verse 35

2.Existence of idol-worship among the progeny of Ibrahim (a.s.) proves that supplication of lbrahim (a.s.) was not concerned with his children but was with regard to all the people in general. Even some scholars say that his supplication was general and it was an obligatory prayer of Prophet hood and to accept or not is upto Allah. Supplication is necessary but it is not necessary that it should be accepted.

Explanations of words and phrases in these verses

  1. Benefit

To replace the bounty of Allah with disbelief or instead of thankfulness to deny the bounty is to use the bounty to benefit disbelief. Both types of sinners are found in human beings. Specially the denial of bounty regarding Prophethood and Imamat is very clear. And the whole community has to suffer its consequences and makes it eligible for Hell as mentioned in numerous traditions.

  2. 1

Yaseloon - They will be roasted in its fire.

  3. 2

Baiy means ransom by paying which people will try to escape Hell.

  4. 3

It is correct that Allah does not fulfill every demand of man because most of the demands are opposed to hidden wisdom. Still, it is impossible to calculate Allah’s favours.

  5. Benefit

Taskheer-e-Kainaat means the appointing of the whole universe for the benefit of man. It is great favour of the Almighty that is also the greatest proof of the lofty status of man. Except for Islam no other religion has announced this lofty status of man.
