Commentary on this passage
Verse 49
1.Except for the Essential Being the knowledge of none else is intrinsic. Personalities are different from knowledge and all get knowledge from Allah the Omniscient and some get the knowledge from schools or teachers and some by revelations. Due to this, except for the Essential Being, lack of knowledge can be attributed to anyone else. The only difference is that common people cannot say so and it is only Allah Who can do so. Warning: A narration is famous with regard to Nuh’s Deluge, that the ark halted on the day of Ashura and Nuh (a.s.) became happy and fasted and invited the people, therefore people should hold festivities on this day. All this is baseless. Ashura is the day of martyrdom of Imam Husain (a.s.) the Prophet’s grandson. It is a day of mourning. To be happy or to hold festivities on Ashura is unlawful. It is like celebrating the demise of the Prophet (s.a.).
Verse 52
2.This verse proves that asking forgiveness is not only beneficial for the hereafter. It is effective in this world also. Like Imam Husain (a.s.) advised a childless man to seek forgiveness seven times a day and he soon became a father. Imam (a.s.) explained that he had concluded this from the above verse.

Benefit
According to some people ‘not of the family’ indicates that Canaan was not the son of Nuh (a.s.). Although it contradicts the tradition of Imam Sadiq : (a.s.). And the mention of : ‘doer other than good deeds’ itself proves that he was expelled from the family on the basis of his bad deed and not due to his heredity.
- 1
This ayat has clearly proved that the family of the prophet’ is not on the basis of relationship, because good deeds are necessary conditions. If good deeds are not present Abu Lahab is also expelled and if good deeds are present Salman is included in the family. Those who are proud of their lineage should specially note this point.
- 2
Some commentators have created a contradiction in this. That Allah is saying not to ask that about which ‘I cannot do this’. Thus why is Allah restraining him when he has not done it? Although it is clear that the statement of Nuh (a.s.) is for the future. And a prophet cannot do such a thing without hidden wisdom.

Hud (a.s.) had descended from the Aad nation and he was the first to speak Arabic. His grave is in Najar.

He had also announced clearly that sin causes the destruction of society and nothing could save the people from this calamity except Isteghfar (seeking forgiveness).
