Al-Humaza

The Traducer · verses 1–9

Makkan9 verses

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

وَيْلٌۭ لِّكُلِّ هُمَزَةٍۢ لُّمَزَةٍ

104:1Woe to every scandal-monger and slanderer,456

ٱلَّذِى جَمَعَ مَالًۭا وَعَدَّدَهُۥ

104:2who amasses wealth and counts it over.7

يَحْسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُۥٓ أَخْلَدَهُۥ

104:3He supposes his wealth will make him immortal!8

كَلَّا ۖ لَيُنۢبَذَنَّ فِى ٱلْحُطَمَةِ

104:4No indeed! He will surely be cast into the Crusher.9

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْحُطَمَةُ

104:5And what will show you what is the Crusher?

نَارُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُوقَدَةُ

104:6[It is] the fire of Allah, set ablaze,

ٱلَّتِى تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى ٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةِ

104:7which will overspread the hearts.10

إِنَّهَا عَلَيْهِم مُّؤْصَدَةٌۭ

104:8Indeed it will close in upon them11

فِى عَمَدٍۢ مُّمَدَّدَةٍۭ

104:9in outstretched columns.1213

Commentary on this passage

Verse 2

2.This Surah is based on ethics in which attention is drawn towards the greatest evil of society. Because of which disturbance may be created the world over, and it is to taunting others and tale telling. If these two evils are removed from the society trust can be created in the society and everyone will live a life like brothers. Worst are those who have made this ethical offence a profession and they have no idea that tomorrow the fire of Hell is going to blaze on the heart which has resorted to taunting and backbiting.
