9. At-Tawba · The Repentance
Madinan129 verses
9:123O you who have faith! Fight the faithless who are in your vicinity, and let them find severity in you, and know that Allah is with the Godwary.1
9:124Whenever a surah is sent down, there are some of them who say, ‘Which of you did it increase in faith?’ As for those who have faith, it increases them in faith, and they rejoice.
9:125But as for those in whose heart is a sickness, it only adds defilement to their defilement, and they die while they are faithless.2
9:126Do they not see that they are tried once or twice every year? Yet they neither repent, nor do they take admonition.
9:127Whenever a surah is sent down they look at one another: ‘Is anybody observing you?’ Then they slip away. Allah has turned aside their hearts, for they are a people who do not understand.3
9:128There has certainly come to you an apostle from among yourselves. Grievous to him is your distress; he has deep concern for you, and is most kind and merciful to the faithful.
9:129But if they turn their backs [on you], say, ‘Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god except Him. In Him I have put my trust and He is the Lord of the Great Throne.’

Commentary on this passage
Verse 123
1.The supplication of Imam Zainul Aabedeen (a.s.) is the best guidance about the rules of Jihad. Imam has blessed the warriors - ‘O Allah! Increase their strength, make their armours swift and sharp, protect their gathering, make their expenses economical. Give them patience. Be kind by means of good deeds. Those who don’t know, show them the way. Those who are ignorant give them knowledge. Remove the worldly pleasures from their hearts at the time of war and efface the love of property from their hearts and make the heaven centre in their sight, that we cannot guess; better than success and victory and such people have rights to win the heart and countries.
2.The Prophet sympathizes with people. He considers others’ sorrow as his own. He is very particular about guidance. Being kind hearted he bestows special favour on them. Of course no one keeps relation with hypocrite people and depends on Allah’s strength and this is the last message of Islam.
