Verses 1–15

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُزَّمِّلُ﴿١﴾

73:1O you wrapped up in your mantle!²

قُمِ ٱلَّيْلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًۭا﴿٢﴾

73:2Stand vigil through the night, except for a little [of it],

نِّصْفَهُۥٓ أَوِ ٱنقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا﴿٣﴾

73:3a half, or reduce a little from that³

أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ تَرْتِيلًا﴿٤﴾

73:4or add to it, and recite the Quran in a measured tone.⁴

إِنَّا سَنُلْقِى عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًۭا ثَقِيلًا﴿٥﴾

73:5Indeed soon We shall cast on you a weighty discourse.

إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ ٱلَّيْلِ هِىَ أَشَدُّ وَطْـًۭٔا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًا﴿٦﴾

73:6Indeed the watch of the night is firmer in tread and more upright in respect to speech,⁵

إِنَّ لَكَ فِى ٱلنَّهَارِ سَبْحًۭا طَوِيلًۭا﴿٧﴾

73:7for indeed during the day you have drawn-out engagements.⁶

وَٱذْكُرِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًۭا﴿٨﴾

73:8So celebrate the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself to Him with total dedication.⁷

رَّبُّ ٱلْمَشْرِقِ وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَٱتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًۭا﴿٩﴾

73:9Lord of the east and the west, there is no god except Him; so take Him for your trustee,

وَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَٱهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْرًۭا جَمِيلًۭا﴿١٠﴾

73:10and be patient over what they say, and distance yourself from them in a graceful manner.

وَذَرْنِى وَٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ أُو۟لِى ٱلنَّعْمَةِ وَمَهِّلْهُمْ قَلِيلًا﴿١١﴾

73:11Leave Me [to deal] with the deniers, the opulent, and give them a little respite.

إِنَّ لَدَيْنَآ أَنكَالًۭا وَجَحِيمًۭا﴿١٢﴾

73:12Indeed with Us are heavy fetters and a fierce fire,⁸

وَطَعَامًۭا ذَا غُصَّةٍۢ وَعَذَابًا أَلِيمًۭا﴿١٣﴾

73:13and a food that chokes [those who eat it], and a painful punishment [prepared for]

يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَثِيبًۭا مَّهِيلًا﴿١٤﴾

73:14the day when the earth and the mountains will quake, and the mountains will be like dunes of shifting sand.⁹¹⁰

إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولًۭا شَٰهِدًا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ رَسُولًۭا﴿١٥﴾

73:15Indeed We have sent to you an apostle, to be a witness to you, just as We sent an apostle to Pharaoh.
